Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Just made it home. We got down to Newbury and I took 91 South home. We ran into Dave from NC at auto parts store. I hope he makes it.

Dave, When you can check in here.

Hope everyone else had a great time.

Curtis,

Once again thanks for an outstanding weekend.

Gerard,

THanks should go to you for leading the 2nd group as well. Even though you ditched us.

And thanks to all that participated and made this weekend another memorial BBD Ride VT.

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Just want to say Joanne and I had a great time. We made it home fine, right around 3:00. Had a total of 580 wonderful miles for the weekend.

Many thanks to Curtis and everyone else for making it a great weekend. What a great bunch of folks!

I'll post some pics in the next day or two.

Valerie and I would like to thank everyone for a great weekend and a special thank you to Curtis for coordinating this event and showing me what a "spirited" ride in the rain is and to Gerrard for leading our Saturday group on a spectacular ride up and by Lake Champlain. What gorgeous country side.

The pics are wonderful.

What a fantastic weekend!!!!! Leah & I had a great time. We made it to Providence around 4:30 after a little jaunt through Boston.

We loved meeting everyone, and loved the conversations.

Leah and I would like to thank EVERYONE who came along for the ride, for everyone's participation is what made this such a blast; but a HUGE THANK YOU to both Curtis & Gerard; we would not have had as much of a good time without either of you.

Thumbs up Thanks Gerard & everyone

Gerard,
Your suggestions and contributions to Ride Vermont 2009 were invaluable and highly appreciated. THANK YOU!

And to all participants, thank you for joining us! We hope everyone arrived home safe (if not dry) with good memories of good riding and friendship.

We have noted your thanks and have our reward. I enjoy counting smiles at stops and evesdropping on animated conversations during the social times.

Right back atcha Curtis. You have given life to this event... how can this be topped next year?!

Sue and I had a great time, and I do have to thank Kevin for the entertainment on Saturday night. Anyone who missed it must ask him, (in person), to tell you the "waycation" story!

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Left early at 5:08 am. Getting up early is part of my military background! Went down central Vermont, basically along Rte 100 and then thru Bennington. Got home about 3pm after 475 miles.

And oh yes, I did run into that one Vermont State Trooper on Rte 100. He clocked me going 82 in a 50 zone. Said he could have arrested me, anyone caught going 30mph over the limit. But he was nice enough to write the ticket for 70 mph so I guess that was kinda a break. Ah well, first ticket in about 10 years, 2 points.

Had a geat time, learned some things, and much thanks to Curtis and Gerard.

Dan,
yeah we missed you early Sunday morning.
Thanks for making the trip, good to see you again.
sorry about the ticket. I've been lucky, but I also have a sense of where the law enforcement is (and isn't ) likely to be doing their job.
In my experience most of the LEOs (state, county, and local) in Vermont are pretty fair guys (gals too), and when treated with respect will give you a break.

Again, thanks for making the ride, glad you joined us!

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

I was bombing south on 91 doing about 80 mph when I saw in the distance two sport bikes on the left hand side of the road in a turn around. I must of passed 6 cops in that trap. Thankfully i was slowed to 65 and they were too busy writing tickets to everyone else. Other than that I made some great time and only had one asshat try to share my lane with me in CT. He never even looked just changed lanes. Luckily, I was watching out of the corner of my eye and I saw him go for the turn signal and I backed off. He did try to apologize but he got the one finger salute anyway.

Hey Dan,

good to see you again. Glad you made it up for our little ride. Good to see you are supporting the State of VT too. How much was the ticket? In CT a ticket like that will cost you about $250 or more. It has been awhile since I received one. Almost 15 years.

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Anybody up for a shirt? I was thinking about getting shirts made to remember this years events. Here is a link to the draft design. I may work on the logo. The roundel is just a place holder for now. Let me know what you guys/gals think. I also tried to capture all the riders on the back but i think I missed one or two. I do not know the couple from Avons handle so I know I did not have them. Who else did I miss? Pricing should be about 22 per.

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Had a great time this weekend meeting everyone - some for the first time and others for a second time. Next time I hope to be on a bike (not just in my dreams). Will find out tomorrow what the prognosis is/was.
I will post pics as soon as I can.
Thanks to everyone for the good memories.

It may be ugly but it sure is easy to get it on the center stand.

Someone at the Lodge said "You made it- I thought you'd be late:
I said "I would have been here earlier - if they would have moved those motorcycles out from in front of me!!!"

Hey, You rode with the "slow" group, you can not bitch about it. It was good to have you on the ride, I mean drive. Any word from the dealer yet?

Yup, he made it home. Rode all night I guess. He posted in the other thread that he got home in time to get to work on Monday. He gave me a phone call today from work to give me an update which I really appreciated.

He told me earlier that he had 4 or so NASCAR engines to build before Friday and really wanted to get back to work.

Thumbs up to saddleman.

Weather update from The Lodge

I emailed Annie at the Lodge with thanks for their efforts to put on a menu breakfast which they had not done before, and for making every effort to accomodate our individual and group desires.

So if you got rained on during your ride on Sunday, consider her most recent report to me:

".... I hope that everyone had a good time and that you all made it back safely. It is a good thing that you left when you did. At about 12 noon the weather changed dramatically. It dropped about 20 degrees, had a thunderstorm or two and ended up hailing with high winds, and snow on the mountain! Crazy!
Anyway, we want to thank you and your group, and hope that you consider us again in your future plans......Annie".

We were lucky in many ways with our stay at The Lodge at Jay. Remember how sunny it was early Sunday morning while we were enjoying our coffee?

To All,

I too sent an email to the address listed on their site thanking them. Maybe the rest of us should do the same. Of course if you enjoyed the accommodations. Now a days people typically only write things when they have had bad experience.I wish more people would write more thank you notes when they are deserved and I think this happens to be one of those times.

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Despite the on & off engine problems I had I still had a blast and am glad I made the trip. This was my first group ride and the sight when I was at the back was awesome. The roads & lack of traffic compared to NC mountain rides seemed much better to me for a saturday ride.

The fact that my bike ran like crap sometimes and normal other times is still a mystery. On the way home half the time between Brattleboro and one hour east of NY City it ran like it always has. Eventually from running bad I think the O2 sensor gave up. The last two hours home it seemed like it ran in full rich mode.

After I rode it to work & home today (a mistake) I washed it and its in the garage. I'll check the engine first before before anything else. I want to make sure riding it home didn't hurt anything. Then on to what I hate the electrical parts.

I almost forgot I was able to get enough speed to pass the 2 Miller Lite Dodge transporter that was coming home from the Dover race. That is one of our teams and I saw the trailer just south of DC at 10:30. It was a nice little wake up for me.

I rode past the same trap on I-91 but I was in a forced slow mode if you know what I mean?. My radar detector didn't go off when I rode by.

Val and I saw the 2 crotch rockets pulled over on 91. We were only cruising at 73 mph and they didn't give us a look.

We're really relieved that saddleman made it back to NC safely.

The Tee shirts look great - 1 XXXLT and 1 medium.

Again, thank you Curtis and Gerard for the most wonderful moto trip we have had.

We arrived home 15 minutes before the thunder storm hit us. "Timing is everything".

To my new and good friends of the 09 BBD. You all very very cool to be with.

Trip home was wet, but Joan and I saw a black bear prance through the center of town while stopped north of Lebanon. Funny thing. He realized that last turn was a wrong choice, he was hauling ass to get out of Dodge.

I do love New England.

If you are in the neighborhood, call.

Thumbs up Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

Jacques and I stayed overnight in Brattlesboro. Monday morning rise and shine a whole lot of sunshine and off we went. we took 9 west to 100 south to 8A to Charlemount, then US2 to 43 west and into Nueva York where we took 22 south to 684 etc. Home at 3pm.

Thank you Curtis, for without you there there would not have been this weekend of great riding, great people and great fun.

Special thanks goes to Gerard for volunteering to lead the second group.

Jerome, Good to hear from you! Glad you both made the trip and joined us. It was good to see you again and to meet Jacques. At his request, I haven't posted all the pictures.
But really, we all drop it. Two kinds of KLT riders, those who admit to having dropped it and those who don't.

One of the BBDs laughed out loud when he saw me helping move another bike, he had seen me drop my own more than once.

Thanks for the report on your safe arrival home, and we hope to see you again.

Re: Ride Vermont 2009 pics

I just want to explain the decision process I went thru before I decided to ride home. The first thing I needed to know was if I had a to much or to little fuel problem. If it was to little fuel there would be no way I would even try to ride home.

The first thing I did when we arrived at the lodge was check the spark plugs for a lean or rich fuel mixture. By looking at all 4 spark plugs it was easy to see there was excess fuel in the combustion chamber that was not getting burned. To me that was a good sign. By the time I had it running again it was almost dark & time for my favorite beverage. An ice cold Miller Lite that Curtis bought. Thanks again Curtis.

I still had one more thing to check before deciding to ride home. A weak coil can hide lean fuel problems. So I had to also check fuel flow & pressure. At daylight I removed the right upper tupperware. I disconnected the pressure side of the QD fitting from the fuel pump. (Both of my side cases are full of tools & spare parts plus a Clymer manual) and hooked up a clear vinyl hose. I was going to wait until I could get a gas can from the lodge when Curtis suggested a clear plastic bottle. I had a empty water bottle that I shook dry. Curtis & I turned the key on & off several times flowing fuel into the bottle. Fuel flow was not a problem. Now we had to check pressure. Curtis pinched the line while I turned the key on & off plenty of pressure Curtis said. I pinched the line while Curtis turned the key on & held it until it started to leak past the barbs on the fittings.

After that is when I made the decision to ride home if I could maintain a safe speed. At the first large town I stopped for a new set of spark plugs. For two reasons. I wanted a spare set & I wanted to gap them for a weak coil & a rich mixture. I stopped at Bond Auto Parts in St Johnsbury & after a half hour at the counter I finally got a set of Champions that were the right heat range. All the crossover charts were wrong. I can't say enough for the parts guy at the counter. He was truly amazed when I explained how to see the difference in heat range just by looking. I also want to thank all of you for stoping as you rode by. I had gone back in the store to buy a 5/8 plug socket when I heard all the bikes & thought by the sound thats our BBD group. I set the gap at .020 and rode home.

I have now checked valve lash, compression, leak down & looked in the engine with a bore scope. All is fine. Now for the hard part. I have to find out whats wrong.

If I seemed short with any of you Sat.night or Sun morning I apologize my mind was in a different zone.

BTW I got to know. BIGGEO was that a new record to eat a ice cream cone. That was funny. Heres my pics.

Dave,

Glad you made it home safely. We were thinking about you all the way home and until you posted Monday Morning. As for being short or otherwise in another world, I never pick up on it. I was saying to Gerard how calm and cool you seemed. You impressed me and I am sure all the others. Your knowledge is amazing.

It was a pleasure meeting and riding with you. I look forward to the next time. Keep up the progress, I am sure we all want to know how things work out.
