Anyone in Conneticut?

There is a chance that my family will be relocating to CT next summer. Area is in/around Enfield. What is the area like? Any areas to avoid? Any info is appreciated.

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

I have lived in CT all my life. I grew up on the shoreline and now reside in central part of the State now. Well Eastern part. I live in colchester. There some very nice towns in the enfield area. Suffield, Granby, Somers and Broad Brook to name a few. It really depends. Where will you be working and how long of a commute do you want? There are some really great towns south of Hartford. Also how much do you want to spend on housing? How much land do you want? Personally, I would stay away from Bloomfield, West Hartford, East Hartford and Glastonbury.

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

On the stay away front, Broad Brook, Enfield and East Windsor too. I lived in Broad Brook (an East Windsor thing) and knew people in Enfiled. The further from the CT river you are the better. I did West Hartford too. Taxes and anal population are right up there.

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

Thanks for the responses. I have no idea where I will work, won't know till I get there as I am a teacher and don't have to work right away. Wife will work in Enfield if it works out. If not, we will move back to the Bronx. Either way ok with me, although I will miss California.

I would prefer a house on acreage; willing to spend up to $450k.

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

$450 in Enfield will buy one hellof a house, that is if it exists. Enfield is a reasonable commute out to about a dozen mile radius. I would look at Granby, East Granby, South Windsor, prolly in that order. Nice properties out there and at $450 you should do fairly well I would think. Especially in this market.

By the way, what's your time frame?

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

Time frame unsure as of yet. May end up in the Bronx...won't know until next spring. At least if we go back to NYC, we already have a house so it is a much easier move.

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

There is a pretty huge difference in the quality of life between the Bronx and Enfield though! It's really going to depend on the type of lifestyle you're planning on. Not sure I would want to own the LT if I lived in the Bronx since it's either going to be vandalised, stolen or smashed up before long there - not to mention traffic issues - maybe a Hypermotard? Yeah! Come to think of it, a Hypermotard would be a LOT of fun in Enfield too!

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

Either location depends upon which job my wife decides to take. Leaning towards the Bronx...as she grew up there and we already have a two family house there. As for the bike; I will keep it. Bronx is not as bad as you may think. Plus, we are in a REALLY nice neighborhood.

Unfortunately, people from "out of town" think of the Bronx only by the bad areas. Can you imagine what they might think if they visit the nicer areas? They don't realize that Bronx is a large county and that there are some extremely expensive mansions in some of those nicer areas.

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

Well, we are moving to the Bronx in February. Sure will miss having roses bloom in January!

At least we already have a house although I have to park the bike at my in-laws house about two miles away. Oh well, guess you can't have everything. Bad this is, I used to ride everyday, but that is going to change since I am a teacher and will not be able to ride everyday. Oh well, that what happens when you have kids.

So, I am excited for spring; can't wait to explore new territory.

Lodi is wine country. Great grapes. The pacific coast. Beauty.
The Bronx is whine country. Great gripes. The filthy coast. Dull.
So, why again are you moving?

Family! Wife doesn't want to raise kids away from family, which neither of us have here in California. Yes, the riding is great, as is the weather. Wine; doesn't get much better than here, but I can get Lodi wine shipped to NYC. We are keeping our house here (it's a 1930's cottage in downtown Lodi). We may end up here when we retire (that's the plan). I am a teacher and you can not believe what that means in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia. (In my best Nazi German accent) "You vill teach this on this day or else!!" Socialism at its best!!!

That is understandable. Just be careful raising kids in NYC - they may become Yankees fans!!!

Re: Anyone in Conneticut?

I have lived in CT my entire life. My wife is a teacher. We are in the Meriden Wallingford area. I used to commute to Bloomfield. I hate the New Haven to Enfield corridor. I love everything very west and very east. Check out the CRVBMW club.
