L. I. Dealership

Last week, I rode past Precision Motors in Valley Stream for a turn signal bulb and a cup of coffee. I guess you can add them to the list of used to be dealers. There was a sign on the door from the State Dept of Taxation. There were maybe 2 bikes inside and maybe a couple locked up in the back area. Do any of you Islanders have any info?

Arthur lost the dealership well over a year ago. He tried to give it a go as an independent repair and accessories shop but recently had his entire invetory seized and sold at auction courtesy of NYS Tax Department.

As you know, that leaves us just the Cliff's dealership in CT and a factory shop in Manhatten.

There was rumor of Gold Coast Motorcycle Dealership in New Hyde Park and Habberstad BMW in Huntington opening a Beemer shop. Both of those have not come to fruition.

The next closest shop is Cross Country in Metchan NJ, just over the Outerbridge Crossing.

FYI, there is a Long Island BMW Motorcycle group that you may want to join. You can find out more at http://www.libmwrc.com/. They have a very active email group on Yahoo!. We have weekly get togethers in Sunday mornings. I gues the closest stop by you is at the Crossroads Dinner in Riverhead.

Metro Dealerships

I'm real sorry to hear about Arthur.

Are they still doing bikes on 57th St. Funny, I overlooked them when I thought about a new mechanic. I guess that port will work in a storm, however there was as I recollect, a reason that I didn't buy my bike there.

Manhattan is a factory store. It has a state of the art service center, but when it first got up and running, it lacked state of the art technicans. That might have changed over the past few years.

I bought my 02 from Arthur, but after the first service took it to Cross Country BMW in Metuchen, NJ for all service and installations. Arthur was 16 miles and CCBMW 53 miles from my home in Queens. It was well worth the trip.

I've said this before and will repeat it again here...What BMW is doing to their current and future customer base on Long Island is, in my opinion, UNACCEPTABLE! Just goes to show you how much they care about their customers and the motorcycle business.

They also closed up their factory shop in White plains( Westchester). I have to drive into Manhattan to get my bike service. The alternative is Cliffs in Danbury ( 45 minutes ). It is about the same time as to manhattan. In Manhattan, I have public transportation to get home. Cliffs, I have to arrange a ride to or from. Getting a loaner is not too practical.
Manhattan BMW seems to be getting beter technicians. I think they are finally solving my Hi Idle and bucking bronco syndrome. I dropped off the bike yesterday, and they called this morning to tell me they were working on the bike and I will be getting a new airbox to solve the problems. I will follow up as soon as they complete the work.
