Best backroads - end of 476 to Watkins Glen

Hello

Travelling from Philly to Toronto....from the end of the 476 (NE extension of the PA Turnpike), any suggestions on getting to Watkins Glen.....I'd like some real backroads..as an FYI, roads like the 6 I consider highways to be avoided at all cost...

If you're getting off at Clark Summit; Rt 11 to 6 West to Towanda; North on 220 into Sayre and Waverly NY; Rt 34 North into Van Etten; 224 West into Montour Falls; 14 into the Glen (Watkins). Let me know if you're going to be in the Clark Summit Area and I'll check the schedule- maybe ride for a while.

If you choose to exit the NE Extension around Wilkes Barre take 115 west to 309 and North to 29; then follow Rt 6 as above.

Good Luck

If Not Rt 6 then...

Take 11 North to Hop Bottom; 167 North to 706 West to Lawton; North toward Bircharville; choice into NY Rt 26 or Little Medows (toward Appalachin); Rt 434 West to Owego; Rt 96 North to Candor; continue west into Van Etten; 224 into Montour Falls; 14 into the Glen.

Good Luck

Thanks guys...this was a last minute request and I had to dash off before I had your valuable advice....

What I did in the end was get off at Clark's Summit, ran up 6/11 to Tunkhannock and took the 29 north. This was pretty good, nice and swooping, but had the worst double yellow's I've ever seen. Don't travel this unless you are willing to jump double yellows. Then took the 167..now thats a real road, well worth finding and so I can see your advice is pretty solid. I may try the rest of your routes on the way back if I don't run across to Montreal.

Thanks again Chuck....sorry to miss you, I would have enjoyed a spirited ride. Oh and Jerome, the 6 is too crowded for me. With a low speed limit, lots of traffic, I've found on the 3-4 times I've been on it that I just can't find enough clear spots to get a decent ride.
