Selling My LT...

Check out the classifieds if you know someone who would like a cherry LT.

I am looking to get a GT or possibly another RT to hold be over until the new LT arrives, it could be a 2 year wait.

Yes, it is true. I am in no hurry, but will sell it prior to the arrival of its replacement. I will probably get a GT or maybe another RT until the NEW LT arrives. Hopefully, the arrival date of the NEW LT will be pushed up, but knowing BMWNA I'm not getting my hopes up.

Meanwhile, I will continue to enjoy my LT.

Hi Joe, the lease is up, as a matter of fact I got a call from the company BMWNA uses to do the inspection last week. The inspection is scheduled for next week and it will prolly be returned by March.

The replacement for the LT has been delayed, so I'm up in the air as to what to get. The only motorcycles in the touring class are the Gold Wing and HD Ultra Classic. I don't care for the riding position of BMW's GT and don't want an RT. I need a bike that can do 2 up, even though Mo sometimes rides solo.

I truly believed BMW would have the LT's replacement out by now, I shoulda known better.

No U C

John,

Don't get an ultra classic. I had an 05, but got rid of it. I look at it this way. If you had never ridden a BMW like most HD riders, you might be happy. But once you have had the best, the heck with the rest. No ABS, no water cooling, (gets hot in the summer), sits too low for me, & wife didn't like it. I put 9,500 miles on it. The new owner is happy.

Hi Jim and Judy, hope all is well with you guys.

Prior to getting the LT I had 2 Honda's and a Dozen or so H-D's over the years. I rode Road Kings (FLHTP's) at work and owned a few on my own. I never had a problem with any of em that I owned. In 2002 I didn't want to pay the ridiculous prices HD was asking for their motorcycles which lead me to seek out other brands. I originally wanted the new GL1800, but no one would let me demo one. They (Honda) wanted me to attend Daytona or other venue to test their bike, they didn't start limited Demos (at dealers)until after Americade 2002. I wanted abike in Feb/Mar 02. BMW on the other hand as you know thru the keys at me and I liked what I rode.

At this point I'm leaning towards the GL1800, but don't like the color offerings as much as the HD Ultra Classics. They are definately 2 diffent bikes but are both capable for the 2 up i need. The HD is better for shorter trips solo should Mo decide to ride her bike. I'm not gonna rush into anything, but don't want to wait too long to replace the LT. I'll keep ya all posted, thanks for the reply.

John,
I had the same bike you're looking at, only 2004. If you're only going to ride "posted" speeds up to 55mph you may be ok. If you ride any faster than "posted", expecially in turns, make sure you don't take your "significant other" or kids and triple your paid up life insurance.

"No problems"??? Well, that's fortunate. I suggest you think long and hard, sir...

I'm assuming you mean the Harley. Well, I have to disagree with you here. I have a ton of time on the FLHT's. Granted stock Harleys usually don't get out of their own way, but the ones I owned or rode at work easily exceeded 100 mph and were very stable, especially in turns. Sure BMW's and Jap sport bikes are far superior in handling, but the HD for a big motorcycle can hold its own.

Well it is with sadness I report the sale of my LT, to fellow northeaster and new list member Eric (egs) this past Saturday. I will be test riding the GT at CCBMW, but right now it looks like I'll be going to the darkside, at least until the new version of the LT arrives here in the US.

I will remain the northeast moderator for the time being, while in between motorcycles. This forum, well the entire community, is such that moderation especially in the Regional Sections needs little or no moderation.

I will keep you all posted to my final choice. In the mean time give Eric (egs) a welcome and see you all "on the road"

John
