Distractions! Distractions! Big Money Rally and White Stag Rally
I'm still waiting on parts for my LT rebuild but the real excuse for not getting her done is the many distractions that accompany retirement. Well, ok, semi-retirement since I still do some PT work to supplement my riding addiction.
This weekend I participated in a fun weekend "Rally" called the White Stag which is a gathering in Beatty Nevada. I took the VStrom down on Thursday/Friday rode the "Rally" which consisted of a coasting competition down Lida Summit heading West on 266. This was fun to do and the looks from motorists wondering what the hell we were doing was priceless. I was able to coast 5.3 miles down that grade! The other checkpoint was a shooting contest with target being... Well I'll leave that for another day.
I have some pictures posted on the BigMoneyRally.com website found here. On the left side sort posts (photos) by rider and look for Ernie (or my riding buddy Dennis aka LDRider). the Big Money Rally is a self paced rally that started January 12th and ends May 12th. It is not too late to enter so check out the website and look around. If you have a particular question perhaps I can answer it, but all of the info is on the site. The objective is to acquire points to finish (120 pts to be exact) by taking pictures of your bike and rally card with your smart phone and uploading them to the Blog. Everyone who is wanting to have a look-see can follow along in "real time" and the scoring is done daily. The bonus locations are border crossings, National Parks, Shriner's Hospitals and Summits to name a few. Rules and examples are on the site. So get out there and have some fun!
BTW! Death Valley this time of year is outstanding! The VStrom is very capable and held its own on the terrain but if I were doing this ride again, especially two-up, I might want the R12GSA.
