K1200LT riders versus the rest of the K1200 line.

Can't believe there is only one person listed in 70 to 75 age group.
Will be meeting a friend in Omaha on 7/11 and heading up to Canada for a month.
I'm 72 and he is 3 months younger than me. We each have to cover about 1,400 miles to meet up, me from Az and he from Fl.

This is an oldie but goodie! I was on the high end tail when this started 13 years ago but now pretty much off the chart! At 77 I fall into the generic category of OVER 75!

Re: What is your age?

Now that this thread has new life, us old farts can skew the data. 71 here, and my K bike is on the lift getting the shocks removed so Ted Porter can rebuild them, new (4000 miles old) rear swing arm to take advantage of the fresh pivot bearings and a final drive that is so tight it is amazing. Refreshed fuel injectors by Mr Injector, new front wheel bearings, you name it. Darn thing will last longer than me now. The S1000R bike is still a young pup with 3000 miles on it as I traded in the 2015 for the 2017 with 5 more HP, let me tell you that think keeps the blood circulating.
I hope to keep riding for quite a few more years, of course I can tell the difference these days. But one has to fight old age best you can.

I'm 65 - have a friend in FL who is 84 & still riding his GoldWing - he does at least one 2,000 to 3,000 mile trip a year - I have slowed down some - I now ride 12, to 15,000 a year - I would think those numbers will back off - I don't get along with the heat in the summer like I use to - tom

Re: What is your age?

What just happened?

I was asked to vote and the Post said #63. I ain't lying I am only 59.

Only started riding in 1979. I was told you should never ride someone else's bike unless you could afford to pay for it (my buddy). Well he let me learn to ride his and the very same day sold it to me. He is not my buddy anymore. He has been a true friend since then.

He has a K100LT the pioneer of the 1200LT and I finally got one after listening to him. I rode that one too but did not have to buy it. Why? Cause the next thing he told me was "once you buy a BMW you will never buy any other bike". So he kept his and I have mine.
ride safe

PS: that 1st bike was a 1979 Kawasaki . . . KZ1000ST a drive shaft and a whole lot of hp

Re: What is your age?

I am72, Ive been on motorcycles since 14. The cages have missed me so far and the foolish riding habits of my youth did not get me killed. I still ride too fast and challenge my skills in the twisties more than I should. But it seems I am as young as my ability to keep up with my younger peers. If I go out at high speed or on a curve I did not make, I will have gone out having the time of my life doing my best to be competitive.

Re: What is your age?

I turned 75 last month. This is my first post to this forum. I just bought a 2003 R1150RT-P last month. It is BMW number 4 for me. Previously I owned a 500, built in the early 50's, a 1972 R75/5 bought new by me in Germany and a 650 with Earls Fork. I sold the first one in 1963 and the other two the same day to the same person in 1987. So far, I am enjoying the R1150RT-P. I hope it will be as good and reliable as the other three were.

73...and bought my very first bike, an '03 LT and two weeks later put 3000 miles on it. Greatest (or at least one of the greatest) experiences of my life. Loved every minute of it.

45 is whats on my license, but it drops by half when I'm on my LT! Seems a few gray hairs blow away every time I run her down the road. Fortunately I'm still replacing those!

I'm thinking that the poll is over 2 years old, nearing 3. Would the entire population shift or with some leaving and newer folks joining change the distribution?

DarkMeister 52 and (not) counting.
No gray balls. Yet.
The way my 20-year old son is drooling over the LT (So! Dad! How's the old ticker, anyway? Feel fine?) we may get a very young member one of these days.

ironbuttwannabe im 23 and there is not many around that age. if anyone around my age, or any age, would want to ride sometime im planning a big trip this year. and a trip to alaska next year. hopefully get my 100,000 miles on bmw's by end of this year. i live just south of cleveland so if you want to ride sometime get a hold of me.

It may not be old, but it sure makes you older than I.

It was interesting to see just how few LT owners there were in my age group (33). I wasn't surprised since my "peer group" seems to gravitate towards either crotch-rockets or cruisers (HDs, mostly). But I want to ride with the Mrs and she doesn't want to ride her own. That landed us smack-dab in the LT, GL or UCEG market. The LT, at least to me, was the obvious choice of the three.

Yeeech; how do you conclude that?
The largest single segment in the survey is 45-49, but with 50-59 and 40-44 contributing to the curve. Last I checked, no gray here ... in fact, my doc said to go for it every hour on the hour while awake! My wife agrees !!! Must have been the high speed flying ... balls to the wall ...

If that (40-49, or... even 40-59) is old ... then, perhaps, I should stop teaching martial arts, hiking up and flying my paraglider, riding my bicycle, skiing, (quit long-distance running just about four years ago), certainly turn in my badge (although I passed the last PT / but the 26 yo I ran with did NOT) and MOST Certainly trade in my 1150 for something more akin to a gentleman of my gathering dusty years ... you see, I clock in at 59!
