Re: Ignition switch moved

Thanks for the replys. I will be calling my dealer to schedule a look/see. My luck I will be headed to CCR and it will decide to quit totally.

Re: Ignition switch moved

I had that happen on one of my trucks. Somehow the switch moved in the assembly and no longer lined up with the key position. I managed to move it back but I lacked confidence it would stay put so I replaced the switch assembly.

You can remvoe the handlebar covers and then the center cover.

My bet is you have some loose parts underneath.

then make dealer appt.

Re: Ignition switch moved

I do all my own service on this and my first LT. My dealer is 150 miles away. If someone has an idea what's up then I will check it out. If all else fails, It goes to the dealer.
I did check and everything is working, parking lights too.
I am surprised I am the first on this site to have this problem though.

Re: Ignition switch moved

WD-40 should never be sprayed into the lock cylinder, only onto the moving bits behind the cylinder from what I've been told. powdered graphite in the lock cylinder has always worked for me, but it sounds like the lock is fubared past that stage.

Sure no one has tampered with it? Trying to steal it?
I had that with a lock on my other bike once - someone attacked it with a screwdriver

Ignition switch moved

I haven't read of this situations so here goes:
The ignition key was starting to act as if it didn't want to move between the positions in the ignition switch('08LT - 12,000 miles). I sprayed the key with WD-40 and stuck it in. It was already in the locked position and did not want to move at all. I removed the key and shot WD into the key slot. When I turned the key the whole lock assembly seemed to move so that now the different positions were totally off. The steering could be locked but that position was now in the ON position, etc. The outer part with the noted positions on it was not moving, just the guts moved.
I kept playing with it, I know that sounds bad, and it has now moved back where it should be and all seems to be right except the parking lights do not come on. I assume the parking lights used to work as I never checked that out.
What's this all about?
