Re: If you switched to the 5 bolt rotor...

Yep, switched out by the dealer under warranty before it ran out.
Have probably put over 5000km on it now (1200km last weekend) and not a hint of a squeal....

what noise problem???

Re: If you switched to the 5 bolt rotor...

I had questioned the squeal from the day I bought my LT new and had always been told "that's what they do." After learning of the service bulletin I called my local dealer to ask about having the rotor changed. Initially I was told since I was no longer in the warranty period (by time but well within the miles) it wouldn't be covered. I asked them to ask the national folks if anything could be done and after several weeks and many emails they split the cost of the replacement with me.

Maybe not the best deal but definitely worth it! It's nice stopping in relative silence...

I'm not sure the behind the scenes details, but I had "complained" (mainly just asked if it was normal and if it could be eliminated somehow) via email to my dealer about the squealing shortly after I picked up my LT. When I heard of the new design being available, I simply forwarded my original email "complaint" to my dealer again and reference the information I had seen posted here. They offered to replace the rotor during my 6K service with no questions asked. I was a happy camper and I think that is what BMW had in mind.

Re: If you switched to the 5 bolt rotor...

Has anyone tried a real "fix" on these rotors (besides shoe goo or RTV) by replacing the worn rivets? I'd like to get my hands on one of the worn out ones to see what could be done with it.
I have the original rotor and pads (as far as I know) on my 2002. The breaks squealed quite a bit at first. Then I used the "bedding in" technique described here and used for cars and the squeal has gone away and not returned in over a year.

Had the dealer swap the rotor on my 05. I have had 2,500 mile of nice quite riding. No rattle no squeal.

I switched to a different pig which is the strong, masculine, silent type...no squealing now and he isn't a "snitch" either!

I've been using brake cleaner. Got the air compressor... didn't think to use it instead.

I think it's time to call the dealer and get the service bulletin change. Been trying to milk it out until I stretch the heck out of these rotors... just before the cowbell effect. But the squeal's getting down right embarrasing, and the play is expanding...
BMW will not want to provide warranty if the rotor is beyond a certain thickness. I would get it replaced sooner rather than later.

Ken, we all can't just run out and switch bikes to solve the squeal.

I have 17K on my 07 LT and the rotor starts sounding like a cowbell - can't hear much squeal after blowing the pads with air.
I made an appointment with IRV Seaver next week. They say it's covered under warranty - will let you know when done.

I switched, thanks to Joe at Irv Seaver. I get a squeal but it is not as loud as before and happens only occasionally.

Switched and no squeal since... this was 3,000 miles ago, or there abouts.

Re: If you switched to the 5 bolt rotor...

I switched at around 16K, thank you BMW. It is dramatically improved, but I still get an occasional slight squeal just before stopping. I have a 2007 K1200LT.

I switched at the 6K service (that occurred at 7,000 miles) and now have almost 10,000 miles and all is well and quiet!

Re: If you switched to the 5 bolt rotor...

I did the "Shoe Goo" fix on my rattling brake rotor. Now it squeals like a pig under a gate. It used to squawk just once in a great while. Now it does it all the time.......ugh..............
