When I saw this yesterday could not help but smile, was like a voice from the past. I was at Red River and Jeff was showing a group of us around some of his favorite roads. At every stop he was on his new iPhone showing off some app he loved.
Miss him, Yep! RIP (Ride in Peace) Jeff

Yep, I remember all the rides and fun I had with Jeff over the years as well. And I think he's the guy that turned me on to Pandora. Damn I miss him.

Same here. When a new unread thread pops up I always check the title and then the author. Did a double take on this one 'til I checked the date.

RIP eljeffe.

WAKY in Louisville, Ky? I listened to Bill Bailey and Rusty Reynolds (if I am recalling correctly) during '60's on "Whacky". Thanks for the memories and lead on Wunder.

He is now looking for help in getting the senate to pass it as well. Glad to see our government at "work". I can not imagine that they spend a whole lot of time and effort on this and several bills that passed. There is just no political sex appeal in them.

Re: Pandora - My Favorte 'net' App of All Time

I tried it...and LOVE it! It's playing on my computer at work most the time, and now on the I-phone as well.

I just received this e-mail. Seems like a fair request to support them:

Hi, it's Tim from Pandora;

Today, thanks to the extraordinary support of many Pandora listeners, we took a giant step forward when the House of Representatives supported Pandora and Internet radio and passed the Webcaster Settlement Act of 2008. Now we need your help so that the Senate will pass it also - and quickly... The finish line is in sight!

After a yearlong negotiation, Pandora, SoundExchange and the RIAA are finally optimistic about reaching an agreement on royalties that would save Pandora and Internet radio. The legislation would give us the extra time we need to finalize the deal.

Please call your Senators Monday morning starting at 9:00 (Eastern) and ask them to support the Webcaster Settlement Act of 2008.

The person who answers the phone in your Senator's office may ask for the bill number - it's H.R. 7084 (if they ask for a Senate bill number, you can assure them that in this unusual case, the Senate is actually voting on the House bill number).

Senator John Cornyn: (202) 224-2934

Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison: (202) 224-5922

If the phone is busy, please try again until you get through. These calls really do make a difference.

Thanks so much for you ongoing support.

Tim

They have a button that will take you to the song in the iTunes (or Amazon's MP3) store where you can buy it for $0.99

Two other apps worth looking at:

Last.fm and AOL Radio (yeah, I know, but it really is pretty good)

Pandora - My Favorte 'net' App of All Time

I've been a user of Pandora for a long time now. And it just keep getting better.

If you're not familiar, it is a music service (free) that allows you to find music and listen to similar songs based on the 'genome' of the song (a number of factors are used to build the 'genome' of a song, and the service matches other songs with similar 'genomes').

www.pandora.com

The reason why this service as become my favorite app of all time is the iPhone Pandora App. It has replaced my satellite radio for my main source of music of late. Even on the GT, the iPhone's EDGE service was able to play an uninterrupted set of songs on the move. It didn't work really well in remote areas of Utah or Colorado, but I guess that's what the iPod feature is for.

When you are in a 3G (or 2.5G EDGE) coverage area, music is downloaded and played on your iPhone (or other smartphones that have a Pandora App). This is way cool stuff.

Pandora has become so popular that the greedy record companies are trying to squeeze more money out of Pandora as an internet radio station. Our lovely Congress recently passed legislation that increases the royalties paid by internet radio to be more than 4 times what terrestrial radio pays and double what satellite radio pays. Amazing what lobbyists can do. Can't we make them illegal (but that's for another discussion).

Anyway, while it lasts, Pandora is my favorite app of all time (until another one comes along )
