Re: Suspect HID install - Happy Ending

Well, I sent the entire kit back to Fashtek and received the new kit today. They sent me a completely different kit than the first one...different ballast, bulb, wiring & gromett (MUCH better gromett). Hooked it all up this time using the "Superman Joe" method without removing anything. It lit for 5 seconds before blowing the 7.5 amp headlight fuse. Ballast says 35 watts on the side, but whatever. Replaced it with a 10 amp fuse and all is good. Anyone else need to up the fuse?

Re: Suspect HID install

This morning the bulb finally lit up and for the first time I saw is potential. It did not last, however, and dimmed out after a couple minutes. I took the whole thing out. Looks like the bulb is the culprit (there is a burn ring around the base that I recall seeing there beforre I ever started), but I'm gonna send the whole thing back. Once lit up it did look at tad yellowish to me. I think I'll ask for the 5000k bulb as a replacement.

After first turning it on it seems to light ok, but then only gets dimmer; never even close to the brightness of the original bulb. Bad ballast, send it back and have then send you a new one.

Re: Suspect HID install

Sounds like a defective unit. I would contact Fashtec and get another one, I believe they have a one year warrenty. The half of a grommet sounds like it was a returned unit that got mixed up with the good stock. Have them replace the unit.

Re: Suspect HID install

I'm not the electrical wiz, but if the bike is started (low battery or not) the light should be on. I installed my HID low beam several years ago and have changed the bulb once (that was fun), if the bike starts the light should be on.
