I think it can be done. Might present some challenges with electronics/electrics but mechanicaly, almost a direct bolt in job. If you do it, let us know how it turned out and any unusual challenges.
If I was in your shoes, I'd go for it.

Cams, motronic, and fuel injectors are diff. I got the 05 cams on my 02 last yr
and along with the Power commander, it feels the same as an 05. Replacing
the motronic might be problematic (canbus stuff) but the engine itself is doable.

It can not be done. The '05 will not work for the '01 LT. DAMHIK!
If you go back and check all of the write-up on my '01 you will see what the problem is.

'05 engine in an '01 bike?
I need a new engine for my '01, (got too low on oil). I've found a wrecked '05 that has an intact engine. I know that BMW upped the hp in the '05, but I don't know if that was a cam/timing change or a motronic change.
Any thoughts on whether or not this is worth the trouble?
