We have one car for the wife, and I have the LT, my job presents it's own problems for commuting. I only "GO" to work once every other month the wife usually takes me to work, Usually the airport or to pick up rental car, which the job pays for. Because of that I never justify owning a second car/truck. 50% of the time it sits, yet you have to maintain insurance and taxes and such. I had a van until my son borrowed it and totaled it. The only problem I have is nothing to tow the boat, so I usually take friends fishing, with trucks, which we use to tow the boat. As far as transportation I use the LT for nearly everything! I usually draw a crowd at Wally world loading the LT, I have an elastic cargo net for things after the cases are filled. |

| CajunBass | I put 12,000 miles on mine between October last year, and the middle of August this year mostly just commuting to work. The only month I didn't ride at all before August was February. It was too cold and wet that month. I haven't ridden at all since August, but hope to get back in the saddle soon. (Hopefully this week.) It was pretty much my main transportation for that time. |

From March until November, my LT is my only transportation, at least while I'm in home and not out of the country working. And then in November, the LT goes to the corner of the garage until spring comes back. My wife has her own car and this year I drove it once during riding season. Hmmm, I wonder what it's like to ride 12 months of the year? |

| calikid | My house hold has been car free for almost a year. Wife rider 650 gs dose all the shopping on it. Bought a car to fix up as a back up but all its done is colleted dust waiting for repairs. Neither of us has been in a hurry to get it going. More then likely just sell it and just continue on with the bikes. |

Proud RIDER ONLY here  I ride for about 8 years now. I'm actually passing my car license next monday. Car will be used just for shopping & to take my wife and little girl to museum, camping...

I ride to work on my LT 5 days a week. The other two days, I ride it for fun. The plywood and concrete I haul in my truck.........

Only Transportation In the last year I've put 15,000 on my bike and it's the only thing I own. Living here in the Central Valley of Cali you can live without a car with relative ease. I'm a member of a car rental co-op for those ski days in the winter. That costs less that insurance for a car which I probably would not put 4000 miles on yearly.

Only Transportation We have been car free for over a year now. I did 9 months with the LT as my only transportation with no problems. I added a GS a few months ago just for something different. The Mrs has her RT and has had no issues either. The caveats being: I live in Southern California, so weather is not a problem. The grocery store is across the street. Work is close enough that I bicycle most days. I already owned the big items (like furniture, tool box, air compressor). Prior to this past year, living in California I would put 40-60,000 miles on a bike annually and maybe one thousand on the car that I owned. Now I only drive a cage when I travel east for work. Going car free just requires a bit of planning ahead when you are thinking about purchasing larger items. I can usually find the larger stuff online for less than I can buy it locally (including shipping). LT also stands for Light Truck. The biggest issue is planning major services. You need to have everything you need up front and allocate the time to doing the job right. After doing a couple of them, you know how to plan it right. You also figure out what elements of each service you can piecemeal through (which elements require removing all tupperware, which ones don't). |

only transportation Guess its time to end this thread or change the name to: "WHY I LOVE MY LT SO [email protected] MUCH" I honestly thought that there would be riders out there that had bought the bike and decided they didn't need anything else. Thanks to all of you that replied. |

| Gizmo1137 | When I had my 99 LT it became my only source of transportation as I was not driving my car and so I sold the car. It served me well, never had problems with my weekly grocery shopping, commuting to work etc. |

| jwacree | I'm a 99% er. I just can't do the snow and ice thing on two wheels. I like the 50 mpg but I think I spent what I save in gas on tires. Any body have any thoughts about that? |

Primary Transportation I use it for commuting daily. Since December, Ole Blue has had 15K put on it and my Truck only 2K. I still can't imagine not having the pick up available. |

| McAllister | I've got three Kids at home, each with a car plus the one my wife uses. But, the LT is the only vehicle I've used since I bought the bike 85,000 miles ago. On the rare times I've needed a car (ice and snow) I could find one in the driveway. |

I'm single, no children or pets, and live in an area where daytime temps in the winter rarely drop into the 40s. I looked at how many times I bought things I can't carry on my LT, divided that into my annual car insurance--its less expensive to rent a car or truck or have a big item delivered to my house than it is to insure any car. Besides, I enjoy riding my bike, but can't say I enjoy driving my car as much. When I moved from NA to here, I rode my HD; I didn't consider driving out here--way to boaaaaring. Lat time I bought too many groceries to pack into my LT, I removed a bag of potato chips, punched a hole in it, and stuck it under my riding jacket. I discovered I could buy air filters for my HVAC on line, shipped to my house, at the same price I bought them locally. Bob, 00LT |

Very few people have JUST a motorcycle,,, Why??? I have went for a year or so with just a motorcycle, but bought a truck when the money got right.... If its just about the LT then you are not going to get many responses because most that can afford an LT can quite easily afford a car or truck.... My wife has a Caravan, and I have a 02 Cummins 4X4 but I haven't seen it for 3 or 4 months because the daughter-in-law is driving it,,, but I only had 14K on it since DEC. 01.... Allot of us see the truck and motorcycle as the exact same thing,,, transportation,,, My motorcycle has NEVER been a hobby or luxury to me |

| rglassma | We have three cars.. By choice, I almost exclusively ride the LT unless it is snowing, hailing or not feasible since I need to take more then one person with me. If it is my wife, we drive.. Had a few problems, but I wouldn't give it up. |

My LT is my only transportation, although my wife has a car. I have had issues in the 4 years I've owned the bike, including but not limited to; Engine seals, exhausts, shocks, leaking slave, QD fuel leak, etc. No final drive issues. (Knocks on wood.) The only time it needed to be towed was with the fuel leak. So, occasionally I've had to get a ride to work with my wife which means going in a couple of hours early, and leaving a half hour early. Amazing what one can get done early in the morning when no one is there yet. Not a huge deal, and fortunately I have a good dealer that understands that it is my only transportation and will get my bike done within a day, normally. There was a one week period, when as the tech said, everyplace this thing could leak is leaking. Still I wouldn't have it any other way. Every time I think I am fed up with problems, they get them fixed and I ride a long distance with my wife on back and I can't imagine going back to Harley, or any other bike. Dale White |

| zippy_gg | I almost exclusively use the LT as my transportation, driving the car only when I have my daughters with me. I only put 20k miles on the Audi in just over 3 years, and about 3 times as much on the LT(s) in the same amount of time. |

I would. If I did not need a car or truck, I would in a heart have the LT as the "only" transport. I had a Ducti ST2 in 98 as the only transport and that bike was a nightmare. |
