Thanks for the suggestions. Found some of those at the local ACE Hardware today and installed them. They seem to have a good tight seal and holding well after putting them on. I got that area back together. I guess I'll know for sure when the shocks come in and I get it back together enough to fire it up and run it a bit.

See if you can get some spring type clamps in that size from NAPA or another major auto parts store.
Here is an example, I'm not sure of the size needed.

I am well aware this thread is quite dated. I have just finished cleaning up the mess and am ready to put the rehabed breather hose back on. However, I'm having a heck of a time finding suitable clamps that are not the crimp style. Has anyone found a workaround yet, or is going back with the oem style crimp clamp the only sure way to seal it properly at the throttle body?

So, if the rubber breather hose is leaking, can it be replaced without replacing the entire distribution assembly. I take if from this thread that it can, if the proper clamps are used.

Agreed. For me the question is whether I want to pop for the proper crimping tool. If low cost and convenient to pick up, I'd go with the OE clamps -- but I won't be concerned with the hose popping off with a properly installed conventional hose clamp.
Mark the asymmetrical pressure on the conventional clamps could allow blow by. I agree do not over tighten. Installing oem clamps does not require the BMW special tool. The use of a pair of chapel pliers works fine on the small oem clamps.I would only feel comfortable using the proper crimping tool on the Clamps of increased size .BTW thanks for the picture you supplied

The use of standard hose clamps is a recipe for trouble, Unless you can find clamps which are under 3/8". The uneven clamping pressure could easily pierce the breather. The oem clamps work well. Sure do not want to perform this repair any time soon, once in a lifetime is enough.

dshealey The one at the crankcase end was a screw type. I thought they all were. guess I don't remember what the ones on the throttle bodies were.

murray Ah I wimped out, Went to the shop and bought the oem clamps. Now I hope I can sleep at night. Thanks for the help !

grifscoots Don't zip tie, if they come off you have to have all that fun again. Using regular clamps only poses the danger of slightly cutting into the hose, in this area I wouldn't worry about and just go for it.

David, Mark thanks for the reply. My clamps are the crimp style. I wish I had the screw type. I went to 2 auto stores the smallest clamp they had was 3/8". I will continue to search. What do you think of zip ties ?

My turn for a head-scratch -- the two clamps shown in my pic at the throttle end of the hose are crimp-ons. Were your OE clamps at that end screw-type?

dshealey I have replaced my breather hose assembly once, and have had my engine out once. Question: Why are you wanting to replace the original clamps? I have never had one bit of a problem with them, they are just screw type clamps, and pretty good ones at that.

I am just not understanding what your issue with them is.

The good news, I have a picture for ya; bad news, it's sorta out of focus (but usable). On the left side is the clamp for the crankcase end of the hose. On the right are visible the two crimp-on type OE clamps that hold the hose to the tube which feeds the four throttle bodies. I would think two small screw-clamps would get the job done, but probably only with the screws oriented toward the bottom in otder to clear the nearby left telelever pivot joint/frame boss. I've never replaced these two clamps, so I don't know for sure. Grif? David?

Breather Hose Clamps

I plan on replacing my breather hose and refuse to use those OEM clamps. Any suggestions ? BTW the Max Micro fish does not show a clamp for the breather or am I missing something?
