Re: I am an IDIOT !!!

Congrats on the new scoot...beautiful. Living in a four season climate, my limit on new motorcycles is fortunately the size of my garage. It would appear from the palm trees you don't have such a limitation. That would be dangerous for me.

Re: I am an IDIOT !!!

CJD, I keep telling myself "no new bikes" and it just doesn't happen. Let me know how it works out for you, and congrats... good looking ride.

Thank you and if everything goes as I expected this will be hopefully my last bike. Unless few years later if I get a very good deal for a GSA1250 but not before 2022 or 2023 I hope...

Ride safe,

Well, you don't have to ask me twice...

I've mentioned this earlier in a few different posts here and some other forums. I am almost 61 yr old, riding since 16... Hey I just realized only numbers of my age reversed, otherwise I have the same mindset. Smile is still the same smile every time I hop on that iron horse. Just no more dark and curly hair anymore, all grey (almost white) and straight.
Anyways back to bikes.

RT vs GSA

Let me explain why GSA and not the GS first. I like big and bulky bikes. I don't like skinny looking bikes no matter how well they may perform. Plus most of my bikes were big and bulky bikes. I like better wind protection and I'd like to feel like I am "inside" the bike rather than sitting "on top" of it. I don't know if I am explaining correctly but bigger bulkier bikes makes me feel like I am surrounded with a strong body around me. I feel like those characters at "Transformers" movies when I ride a bull rather large bodied bike.

Even though new 2019 GS 1250 pricing was not that much different compared to what I paid for my current 2018 GSA, still the bulky body of the GSA impresses me. Plus the extra 3 gal fuel over GS is the cherry on top...

As you can see under my signature that I've had plenty of experiences on different types and models of bikes. If you ask me which, one single bike between all of those bikes in that list makes me feel like I am a "pro" or "expert" level rider, the answer is RT...

It is by far the easiest to control, agile, powerful, comfortable, luxurious and provides perfect wind protection. The only down side of an RT in my humble opinion is with being "luxurious". That was the only thing made me feel extra cautious or limited at times from what I wanted to do.
Again, by all means, even in my adventure tours I'd like to sleep at a hotel and use a clean regular bathroom instead of "going" behind the bush.
In my 45 years of riding history I never crossed a river that comes up to my knees while I am on my bike. This includes my 4 month long tour in Europe & Africa which I ride through 7 countries. Just few ankle high water hazards and I don't mean ankle high while I am on the bike, but rather while I am standing in the water.
Never looked at a steep muddy hill and thought that would be a good idea to ride to top and ending up look like a mud wrestler at the top.
Not a chance!
So why GSA?
Because, while GSA does "everything" very well and nothing "excellent", while RT does many things "excellent" but not "everything"!

If I have to talk specifically about GSA, even though I do not have experience the new 1250 engine, body is almost the same.

Con: If you wear an open face helmet or lift up your modular you'll hear a loud, irritating road noise comes from the front wheel. I don't know if there is a whisper quiet tire brand minimizes that but the design of the dashboard panel and the front fenders leaves a lot of gap which allows that sound reach you. That's the first thing you'll notice when you come from an RT. When you bring your face shield down and ride your modular closed than it disappears almost 90-95%.

Con: Ride after you left the dealership with the original windscreen you'll feel the wind protection is less than you used to have it on an RT. Thankfully this problem solved easily with an aftermarket Touring windscreen like PUIG @ $130 range.

Con & Pro: TFT !!! Con portion is that TFT looks more like an iPad mini than a dashboard on a motorcycle. Because of the dashboard design it looks like it's not a part of the bike's body and not supposed to be there. Software designed a little quirky and it needs too many inputs to access some information. Information on the screen is not dispersed rather proportionally.

BUT on the pro side it is really easily readable even in direct sunlight. I use it with 60% brightness and it is more than adequate. Maybe I'll get warm up to it more with time! Again not horrible but also not perfect! Just OK...

Pro: Seating position on a GSA is really comfortable upright position especially for those of us with aging bodies and/or big bellies that makes leaning forward while sitting for long periods almost impossible. Especially with the addition of a ROX pivoting risers it becomes excellent. Also you feel like you're on top of the world on a GSA especially while you're in a heavy traffic.

Standard GSA is a tall bike and if you are shorter than 6' or have inseam measurement 30' or less think twice, or better get low suspension version.

In the past I've made many analogies regarding RT vs GSA, Simply put they are both very nice bikes and you can't go wrong with either one of those, if you have enough $ have one each!

But simply put, RT feels like a really nice sedan while GSA feels like a really nice SUV.

No matter what you ride, ride safe friends!

Well the main thing is that you got another bike within 30 days of selling the last one

Re: I am an IDIOT !!!

Haha, I no more than closed the other post about sticking around and no more new bikes and opened this one. I literally busted out laughing. Nice GS and I am sure you will love it. I totally understand the RT and not wanting to scratch it with stuff strapped on the back or just bumping into it in the garage. I had a Super Tenere with crash bars for a short while and wasn't so concerned. Hated the bike and only kept it about 6 months including winter storage so got rid of it for the RT (I do daily higher speed interstate riding in heavy traffic).

As far as finances go, life is short and you can't take it with you. I am learning to not put all of my efforts into getting to the destination but rather enjoy the journey.....
