Yes a 2006 to 2010 model 1200RT is also on my list depending on price and mileage.

You summed up my feeling exactly. My wife and I have rented two 1600s (2013 GTL and 2015 GTLE). Neither made us want to give up our LT, especially after the clutch work also fixed my biggest LT complaint - an off-idle hesitation. Not sure what fixed it, but likely either the O2 sensor, removing the pulse valve plumbing to configure it like the non-US models or thorough cleaning of the TBs. I also fixed the cracked crankcase ventilation system, but it seems unlikely that could have been a cause. I lean towards the pulse valve as the problem was erratic. Usually a bad oxygen sensor is always bad.

I continually monitor the GTL Exclusive, however. The addition of new fairing panels for better wind protection and the addition of reverse are interesting developments for 2017. However, the biggest issue is that the passenger seat is way too far above the rider seat. My wife is tall and with the 4" or so extra seat height, her head is in the slipstream even at full windshield height. No such problem on the LT.

Sure, an aftermarket seat and shield "might" fix that, but I simply am not inclined to drop 30 large on a bike that needs at least another grand to possibly make it "almost" as comfortable as the paid for machine I already have. Unlike some, I don't have more money than brains.

Re: My beloved LT got hit by a car

Here is an update on my bike. I did some research in the last 2 weeks on cycletrader, ebay and search tempest search engines and came to the conclusion that if I wanted the same bike in similar condition I needed to spend around $4300+ without taking into account the expenses involved in getting the bike as I could not find any within $150 miles from my place. So I wrote a long email to Liberty Mutual explaining that to them and also that if they came out with a different evaluation I would ask them to send me the Total Loss Evaluation Report so as I could compare their and my evaluation. Today they called me and they said they would give me $4300 for it plus $100 for the title fees. I told them that I also had expenses to go get the bike and they added another $500 so bottom line $4800 which I think is pretty good for a 99. Considering that a year ago I was offered $2900 as a trade by a Triumph dealer if I was buying a new Triumph Trophy. Now I need to think about my next bike. I always loved the LT for its confort and protection but I would not mind a lighter bike though but with all the same bells and whistles the LT came with (cruise control, electric windshield, heated seats, etc...). I got spoiled with my LT. Also may be a bike easier to work on since I do most of the maintenance and service on it. I would like to stay with a beamer. May be a k1200gt or k1300gt to stay with the K engine, I am not sure yet. I have limited amount of money to add for the bike since I just replaced my main car 3 months ago. I will keep you posted. I had several bikes before the LT, all Japanese but the LT was the one I kept the longest. I really felt in love with the big German lady.

i would remove any favorite farkles from the bike and use them on new bike or sell them on ebay for a little slush fund for new bike,,

i recently totaled a gs,, after evaluating the buy back price, what i could sell the major parts for there wasnt much meat left on the bone for the effort.. i took the cash and bought a new bike.. i stripped the bike of soe expensive farkles and turned them into more cash for new bike..
Maybe you should understand the context before replying. I was neither advocating suing nor commenting on its viability in this case. I was replying to a comment that implied suing in a case like this was somehow immoral or unethical.

If a car driver injures a motorcyclist, I have no qualms at all if the biker sues the car driver. That truly is America at work holding people accountable. People suing others for their own incompetence is when our legal system fails us.

Re: My beloved LT got hit by a car

Glad you came out ok. The LT offers great protection when something like this happens. Unfortunately, dealing with insurance companies is a real pain. Not to knock the value of your bike, but I would be surprised if you get over $3k for it. If anything, deal with the other persons insurance company and hold out for as long as possible. Also claim any damaged gear.
When I totaled my 2000LT five years ago, my insurance company gave me $4k. To me, it was worth closer to $5k, but they go by blue book. In its condition (before the accident) and with accessories, I could not replace it for at least $5,500.
My insurance company called my local BMW dealer to ask what it was worth and I blame the low figure on the Sales Manager. My LT did have 99,960 miles on it, but I would still be riding it today if the accident did not happen.
If anything, talk to your local Sales Manager and tell him that your bike was totaled and to expect a call from the insurance company. If you have a good communication with the Sales Manager and he knows you and your bike well, he may give the insurance company a higher number.

Who knows .
depends on state about salvage/rebuilt title. if the frame has a mark on it they will total it just to much liabilty for them with a cycle

Re: My beloved LT got hit by a car

if you have full coverage it will be totaled or if its his fault his insurance will pay up and it wont go against yours. they will likely give you a low offer but tell them how great of shape it was in low mileage ect ect they will up the offer.. and if the frame is ok you can buy it back and get the broken piece's off ebay

hopefully they find it his fault. dont talk to the insurance company's at all. they record everything let them hash it out hopefully you got a police report and just refer them to that

good luck

Glad to hear you suffered only minor injuries. I am planning on selling my 2001 with less than 21,000 miles, if interested. Feel free to PM me.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, and potential loss of the bike. However at least you are ok. Bikes can be replaced or repaired - a bit difficult on the human side!

Re: My beloved LT got hit by a car

Glad you just have minor injuries but losing your ride is sad. My LT is in similar condition and would hate to lose it.

I drove from NE Ohio on Friday to DC and saw three accidents on the Beltway and a couple of near misses. It's the season of inattentive driving.

My beloved LT got hit by a car

Friday afternoon I was getting bored and frustrated at home. The weather was nice enough so, as I often do when I feel like that, I took my beloved LT for a ride. After a nice 1h30mns relaxing ride I decided to pass by a shopping center on the way home for some last minute Christmas shopping. Bad idea. I was riding on a busy 3 lanes road on the very right lane about to turn right a the next traffic light when a teenager in a big Audi SUV, who was stucked in trafic on the left lane, decided to get out of his lane right in front of me. Nothing I could do to avoid him. Beside a huge bruise on my left leg and painful shoulder I got out ok, no bone broken. I was very lucky to get out with minor injuries. I believe the large front frame and the wings of the LT protected my leg to be crushed between the bike and the car. The left, front and inner fairings on the LT are broken and I think the front frame is slightly bent. I am not sure if the insurance is going to get it repaired or totalled since it is a 1999 model. It only had 55kmiles on it and was in excellent condition and very well maitained by me. It would be a pity if they total it as I will not be able to get another one in similar condition for the money they will give me.

Ride safely folks it is a wild world on the roads and merry Christmas to all of you.
