I'm guilty of putting the fuel nozzle in the fill hole and having it bend the side of the float tube. I didn't let go of the nozzle, but it still dinged the tube. I don't recall having to remove the left side tupperware, but did take off the right upper and move the stingray out of the way, didn't have to disconnect it tho. You don't need to empty the tank either as the unit comes out at the top of the tank, I used a dowel to "rub" the ding out of the tube, and it has worked great every since. Or you can just remember that the fuel level is what it is, and work with it as such, like remembering that the speedo is 5mph fast

+1 on Jzeilers low fuel warning light reset procedure. When I purchased my 2000 LT, the low fuel light would illuminate at half a tank. The previous owner said the dealer unsuccessfully tried twice to correct the problem. After utilizing John's procedure, the low fuel light illuminates with approximately one gallon of fuel.

The 911 will not do this. The one pin (3) goes direct to the warning module (and no where else) and that pin is not populated on the 911. While pin (4) is just a ground. It is just a manual procedure and the way the warning module was designed.

Good to know. Is shorting the pins the only or preferred way? Is this function in the GS911?

Filler tube on the gas station pump. You are an inch away from the sending unit tube if you angle the nozzle wrong.

Here is the low fuel set procedure:
1. Empty the tank and fill it with 1 gallon (or your desired quantity).
2. Make sure you have access to the diagnostic port of the Motorcycle and identify pin 3 and pin 4.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. On the diagnostic port, short pin 3 (brown/black) and pin 4 (brown) for two seconds. (Make sure you have the CORRECT pins - you don't want to short Battery voltage to GROUND by mistake).

5. The tank reserve light should flash quickly. When the flashing ends, the calibration is complete.

This is what the sender looks like. The float slides inside the tube and even a small dent can hang it up.

A dent in the filler tube? Is this the sending unit? Or the area you put the gas nozzle in?

Sounds like the tube has a ding in it from a filler tube impact. Easy to fix but you have to remove both sides of Tupperware and the stingray to get it out. Best to wait for the next 12K service. The low fuel light can be set at home without special tools. Just drain the tank and pour in 1 gallon of gas and follow the procedures. (which I will post tonite as I don't have them here at work.)

Yes,

I am filling up on the side stand
I believe the calibration is to set when the fuel light comes on.
The light comes on at about 1/4 full.

Makes sense that it might be bent stopping the float from rising.

Ok I did not see this asked so I will. Are you filling the bike on the side stand or the center stand. It makes a 1/4 tank difference. Always fill on side stand and don't worry about over filling, you really have to work at it to do that. It should read full (for a few miles) if you fill it to the the ring in the bottom of the filler neck.

Like Axle said, the float level tube in the tank may have been bent somehow, preventing the float from rising to the top when you fill it. I had a problem with mine after I had a fuel tank venting problem and the tank collapsed against the float tube. I was only able to fix it after taking the tube apart and "rolling" the bend out of the tube. In my case, the fuel vent tube had been pinched closed between the tupperware and the tank (my fault for being to hasty in putting it back together).

possibly also the fuel filler tube is bent from leaving the nozzle dangling in the tank while filling, the float gets stuck on the tube, you can take out the filter assembly and check it, I read somewhere a broom handle is correct size to straighten it, if that's the problem.

Fuel gauge question

I have a new to me 2005 LT.
PO said that the fuel computer does not work right.

When I fill up, gauge shows about 3/4 full, fuel light comes on at a little less than 1/4.

I was afraid to really fill up until I did the canisterectamy.

Even then when I really fill up, still shows about 3/4 full.

Do you think that full only shows 3/4 and empty is really 1 gallan left?

Thoughts? ideas to check?
