dcwchfc BTW boys and girls, are you aware that synthetic oil does NOT stick to the upper areas of the final gear, or tranny, so if you're putting it away for a while, and don't want any rust, use dino oil for the winter oil change, and I think that in itself is why Bro in law and/or Honda is Wrong

messenger13 Not only do I recommend leaving it IN, but changing it as well. You don't want any of those nasty acids eating away engine parts during hibernation.

Tat_n_Telle As a professional auto tech for, well, let's just say I remember when "emissions control" meant cleaning out a road draft tube, I would NEVER leave an engine with no oil in it. Fresh oil for winter storage every time. I've seen too many rusty crankshafts and rods, and more than once, someone who had drained all the oil forgot to add it before that first ride of the season - not pretty.

you are correct, thing is it does not even need "condensation" to rust the inside of the trans or engine , all it needs is air there is enough humidity in air for it to rust bare wore metal in no time

seen to many engines and trans damages from sitting

yup , I've seen to many inside rust jobs on parked engines and trannys' it does not take much to get bare metal to rust

Right on, Rich! Why keep your machines in a non-rideable state?

Add some Marvel Mystery Oil, some Sta'bil, and a trickle charger, and your ready to start 'er up at any time.

Here's an easier and wiser solution.

DGM Change the oil, sta-bils for the fuel and tender for the battery.
I may live in San Diego, but I was born and raised in Wisconsin.

I do all of the above also Zotter, But Brother-in-Law said Honda states to leave the oil out for winter storage.
I find that hard to believe but never owned a Goldwing (not fat enough yet, but working on it.)

If fuel will be left for more'n about 25 days, Sta-Bil added.

My Brother-in-law has told me that when we puts his Goldwings (82,06) away for the winter he completely drains the engine oil and leaves them empty until next riding season.
