FRS/GMRS Freq Chart

I'll bet you got the info from the same chart I did Ernie! The one that the Nor Cal guys posted a while back for one of the CCR trips I believe. I saved it to a file, thinking it might come in handy some day. In fact, I try to keep one with my radio for reference on the road just in case it's needed.

I'll try to attach it, but never sure if it's gonna take.

See you down there buddy!

sanjaun2 Ken,
The plan is to take hwy 3 to hwy 36 to cr 511. How does that sound? Cr 511 is paved right? Is there a better route?
I had to drop off the GT at the dealer today. The cruise control is mostly not working.(intermittant) I troubleshot it to a bad handlebar switch. I should have her back tomorrow. Its hardwired to somewhere under the fuel tank.

Gas?

John,

I'm taking the GS this trip and according to gauge, this one does indeed require fuel.

Is the plan to take I-5 down to Yreka, then zig-zag across from there?
As I understand the consensus, yep! Partially to save some time for the fun part of the ride. And the fact that we are doing in one day, not two.

Gas Stop

Just in case anyone might be concerned about fuel in the middle of nowhere, I called one of the restaurants in Hayfork (Peanut) CA to see if they had a gas station in town. The answer was "yes, we do have a gas station!" And if you have a debit card it is available 24 Hrs!

I figured this might be a logical stop since it is pretty close to the mid point for our desired route from Yreka to Fort Bragg. Makes me feel better after looking at the Google earth views of the area! Not a whole lot of towns listed out there, and what few there are appear to be small indeed.

For those of you without the power of Garmin (Ken), if you go to Google Maps and ask for Fort Jones to Hayfork (or Peanut), it should route you onto Hwy 3, and give you one part of the puzzle. You can then ask for Hayfork to Covelo in order to keep it on the small roads. And finally ask for Covelo to Fort Bragg, which should route you through Willits on 101 down to 20 and over to Hwy 1.

At least I'm pretty sure that will give you a good view and distance measurements.

And if you go to Google Earth and put them in you can get a good profile view of the valleys we will be traversing. Pretty cool!

HTH,

John

meese Someone who rides a BMW and uses Apple computers generally understands that the "standard" isn't always the best. All products have their quirks, so each of us has to find what works best.

And yes, the huge screen and great deal didn't hurt. Now if the Garmin 7200 was waterproof, I'd consider it. But I'm happy with the iWAY, until something better comes along.

Someone who is spoiled by having a large screen GPS! And finds a bargain basement deal on one with a large screen.

Ernie, you need to save it to a file and then open it from the Garmin "Mapsource" program. It is a Garmin route. That is the only way I was able to see it.

That's "DaRoid" to you my friend and you might enjoy riding with this guy. He was with me every step of the way on our BtoB and didn't flinch at weather issues, and this in on a little 800VFR!

As far as the present... ummmm I thought you were teasing me again. I hope it isn't PrepH.

Ken,

My friend from work would like to split his room. My other friend had to back out today. So there is room and Jeff, Brian and Dan can vouch for Mark (even though he rides a VFR ) being a good guy.

Quick update on the Fort Bragg Ride

Howdy! I've got a few updates and reminders for folks -

Saturday Lunch - I've talked with Tony's Seafood in Marshall on Tomales Bay(home the the best BBQ'd oysters on the coast) and they are looking forward to seeing up again. They will open up a little early just for us so we can get in ahead of the normal weekend crowd, so for those coming there for lunch please try to arrive around 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning. As soon as we have critical mass they'll open up and start shoveling food out way.

Room Reservations - If you're procrastinating about making a reservation or are still on the fence about going, you'll need to decide and make a reservation by Saturday the 14th. They will release any remaining rooms in our block after that. That doesn't mean you can't get one, but they may sell out and/or you may not be able to get the group rate they gave us.

Rides, Routes, etc. - I've had a couple of questions about group rides and ride routes to lunch and on to Fort Bragg. What's happened in the past is groups have come from San Jose and Sacramento and met at Tony's for lunch, then afterwards everyone does their own thing on the ride to Fort Bragg. Riding up the coast some folks like to stop and look, some like to meander, and some like to ride at a "spirited pace" to keep their tire profiles nice and rounded. Rather than try to keep everyone together we just set the time for dinner and that's when we all get back together. This way everyone can do the ride they are most comfortable with and we can all have a fun, relaxing time doing so. Dinner's at 6:30 p.m., BTW.

I'll volunteer to lead a group from San Jose to Tony's for lunch again this year. Anyone is welcome to come along, just make sure you have a full gas tank before you get there. We'll meet at San Jose BMW at 8:45 a.m. the morning of the 21st and we'll head out at 9:15 a.m. We'll go through San Francisco and take some nice backroads out to Tony's. No need to start a signup list for this; if you're standing in front of the shop around 9 a.m. I'll assume you want to ride along.

That's about it for now. If you have any questions or need any information feel free to PM me or just post it them to this thread.

2 weeks and counting!!!
