R1200RT LC new to me.....

But I'm not new to BMW's. I've owned an '03 R1150GS, '06 F650 Dakar, '10 F800GS, and a '04 R1150R. The R1200RT LC is my first new BMW. I'm a "multiple bike offender" as I always seem to have two at a time. I'm an early member of the IBA and a fifteen year member of the MOA. Don't hold it against me! I'm still working so i don't get to dedicate a lot of time for long trips. But I try to take a week off every summer (Mental Health Week) to get out of my back yard. I'm here to learn as much about the R1200RT LC's as I can. Especially from the maintenance perspective. I've maintained all of the BMW's listed above. So I'll relinquish the floor and get ready to learn as much as I can.

Re: R1200RT LC new to me.....

Jim,

You might want to post this in the RT sub forum......https://www.bmwlt.com/forums/rt-series/.

I ride a 17 RT also and have 77300 miles on it now. It has been fault free and the more you ride it the better you like it. I do all my own service.

The first thing you will find is the battery location is accessed from the right side. They made it difficult to get to the positive post...but they added a remote positive lead to just in front of the battery for farkles and connections. It will have a red plastic cover on it.

Enjoy

Ron

Welcome Jim!

Based on your experience, you will find that the "wethead" RT is very easy to maintain! Post in the RT section if you have any questions, and we'd be very happy to lend a hand!
