2007 k1200lt, two years of fun

I purchased the LT with just 1750 miles on it. The owner had several bikes and this one just sat. Before the purchase the prior owner went through the bike and replaced injectors and etc.. Today, I am just about 15K with two tire changes. This is the nicest bike I have ridden to date.

There are a couple things that everyone seems to note about this bike. It is heavy! Slow speeds are not friendly. Dirt roads can be and extreme experience if you have loose sandy conditions or you have speeds under 10 miles per hour. Oil changes are less than flattering to the bike and the side stand after a ride leaks oil over the head. Thus the CT is a good feature to distract the owner from the actual issue at hand. The bike handles well and cruises at open road speeds approaching 100 mph with no issue and without significant mileage change. As it is heavy, tires on flat road ride high and flat. I just pulled some Angel GT's off and they were spent at just under 10K, front and back. Cord showing flat on the back and on both side walls on the front. I am testing out some Shinko 009's now. 120/70 ~ 170/60. One more thing on the negative side. I use a gps to tell my speed and always have. Original tires, angels or shinko's all show about 7 to 10 miles below the actual speed. This could just be the BMW standard. Zoom Zoom - look how fast I am going!

I have loved this machine. I never thought I would own a full dresser, but this bike seems to have the best of all things except slow speeds. Then again, that may be part of a personal balancing issue as well. Let me rule out any dirt of any kind as well. I have yet to pull the cal off. That will be this fall when ice comes. I would like to hear if anyone has options for the radio (which has kept me company for hours of open road) and Bluetooth that it does not have.

Thanks to all the articles. I have read and used many as well to know what to do with the bike. This is a great storehouse of information.

Regards

There is another forum user here that does upgrades to the LTs radio. Hopefully someone will chime in here as I don't immediately recall his name. I am hoping that I can get the upgrade ( new amps, USB) over the next winter. I usually listen to music or podcasts through my Sena 20S but I also enjoy cranking out some tunes in the radio once in awhile.
