Re: New member

Welcome to the site of tortured souls but yet pleasingly titillated BMW owners. I have a 2007 K1200 LT and love it. I put on 28,000 miles of mostly two up riding and both the wife and I have enjoyed every moment. As you know the most important thing when buying a bike especially a maintenance sensitive bike like the BMW's is to make sure all the required maintenance has been done. I would steer clear of any bike without a detailed maintenance record. Even if your are a certified BMW mechanic, a bike that needs work can be frustrating to fix and expensive. If the bike looks like the owner did not take care of it then it is a sure bet that it has not been maintained. Don't let your enthusiasm to get a new machine cloud your logical thinking and end up with a bike that looks clean but has lots of problems. If you can take it to a competent dealer to be checked out, do it. Important items to check are clutch slipping, ABS faulty, rear drive on its way out, any signs of severe oil leaks that have been power washed away (look on top of the engine and on the bottom of the engine transmission/clutch bell housing connections), old OEM brake lines, idling or acceleration issues and also be aware of hack job accessories tied into the electrical system.
Good luck and safe riding.

Re: New member

You will love the LT. My wife and I have owned our 2007 since new and we have put 26,000 miles of very enjoyable riding.
We trailer our bike to the locations we want to tour such as Bar Harbor Maine, Cape Breton Nova Scotia, Blue ridge parkway, Michigan's upper and lower peninsula, The finger lakes, Adirondacks and Richmond Virginia. Once the wife retires we plan to do a cross country to California's Pacific coast highway and eventually ride in most of the western states.
Good luck with your hunt and Have a safe and happy New Year to you and all who love to ride!

K1200LT vs R1200CL ?

Tough decision ... but the smoothness of the BMW inline-4 will be hard to beat !
