New memeber with New to K1200LT

Hello Everyone, I am new to this neck of the woods. I have been looking for a bike with a sidecar (my wife has arthritis and it's easier for her to get into rather than on), I recently found a wonderful K1200LT with a Hannigan Sidecar, with about 24K miles on it, at a steal of a price. Got the bike in Ohio and drove it back to the Atlanta area. We hope to be out touring around the area and as we get more accustomed to it we hope to increase the length of the tours.
A little about us, We are both Registered nurses working "in hospital". we have 5 daughters; 3 of whom absolutely love to ride with Dad etc. They say they want to learn to ride eventually. I have been riding off and on since I was in high school (early eighties) but this is my first real "touring" model bike. And my first BMW. So far I am quite impressed with it.
Looking forward to making some new friends and hopefully to see some "down the road".

John

Re: New memeber with New to K1200LT

Welcome, John!

And I thought the LT was pretty well weather protected - that sidecar looks like it could handle a hurricane! How is it, ventilation-wise? The LT is a nice bike and yours looks pretty clean. Although I couldn't tell from the pictures, take a look at your bike's brake lines - if they are black rubber, they are probably originals and should be replaced soon, as you wouldn't want to have one fail at a bad time (basically, anytime is bad) and need to practice your nursing skills unnecessarily. Ride safe!

Re: New memeber with New to K1200LT

Actually the ventilation is pretty good on it. Or so the wife says. It's got the 3 speed blower fan (not the water A/C) and another big vent you can open. Plus the top comes of (nice convertible look). Thanks for the Welcome! I actually live closer to Dacula, GA but the address is Auburn. Hehe. I'm working on getting the bike squared away and service up to date. Thanks for the tip on the brake lines, I'll check them in the AM.

John, good luck with your new machine. This site is invaluable to any LT owner. Read all you can. I have learned so much over the years and have been able to make great modifications that enhanced this fantastic bikes capabilities. If you have any questions the guys on this site will usually have the answers or try damn hard to figure it out. I get better info from this site than most any BMW stealership I have dealt with. Oh and Nurses, they are also the unsung heroes of our society!!!!

Re: New memeber with New to K1200LT

Welcome aboard from Chesterfield, SC (the heart of the Carolinas). Love the looks of your unit. I have never ridden a bike with sidecar, but at 69 I know one of these days I might have to look at sidecar or trike. I really like the looks of the sidecar vs. trike, but I hope I will not have to make a decision anytime soon. Ride safe and enjoy.

Beemerboneyard has maintenance kits for you at a reasonable price with good products. At some point you may want to also change out the ignition wires as they are old if original, aftermarket of course from Euromotoelectric.
