Howdy from Fort Worth, Texas

I'm a soon to be new owner of a 2002 K1200 LT. I've been on a 2001 Road King for a long time and about a year or so from buying something new. I was planning on a new Indian Roadmaster until I looked at a K1600 GTL at a bike show. Considering the ride style and seating position difference I decided to try a used LT out and see how I like it.

I found a good deal on a 2002 LT with 38,000 miles in Houston. After a few phone calls and picture exchanges we worked out a trade deal and they're delivering it this coming Tuesday. It'll be a change but sometimes that's a good thing. In actuality I'm pretty excited to start a new adventure with this bike.

Several good folk on a different forum recommended this site for the wealth of information it is. It looks like I'll need to make a few minor changes in the next month or so before a trip to Arkansas for the week. I'm sure I'll have a few questions and request recommendations for Iphone integration and hiway pegs. I like to fabricate things versus spending a lot of money where I can. The wife says I'm cheap, I say I'm fine tuning my fabrication skills. The next thing I need to get is the service manual so I can do what maintenance I can. I appreciate your help in advance.

Howdy from Austin.... There is a ton of useful info on this site along with some of the best folks who ride. The K1200LT is a great bike, I had a 2000 I rode for 5 years and put over 60K trouble free miles on it. As with most forums you will see post about a lot of problems with the LT but take it all with a grain of salt. The vast majority of LT's have gone many thousands and even hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles.

Welcome!
You will find a wealth of information on this forum, and you will make new friends as well.
For the highway pegs I would suggest that you send a PM for Deputy5211 (Tony) who is selling his after his LT was totaled a while back.
He happens to be local to you.

I'm hoping for the same outcome. I've rebuilt nearly everything on my Road King and now I just want to be able to ride. Standard maintenance is fine, I just don't want to deal with the roadside issues. I'm looking forward to learning to work on this bike, it's an adventure of it's own.

There certainly is a wealth of knowledge here. I've been delving into it for the last few days. Thank you for the heads up, I'll try and reach out to him.

Thank you. I've been doing a fair amount of reading which is good and bad. The amount of information, expertise derived from trial and error and general feel of the people is great. The reading about all of the "issues" makes me question the purchase of a 14 year old LT. LOL

I thought HD had some high prices but I should of known BMW would trump it. Good thing I like wrenching on things. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions after it gets delivered today and I have an idea of where I'm starting on it.
