New Guy from PNW

Hi Riders,
Just joined this forum. Trolled for a couple of weeks looking to see if there were interesting topics here, and found there were.

I'm retired since last July and hoping to tour the entire country this year, so I've just finished a 3-day demo of a new R1200RT and waiting a bit before pulling the trigger.

I've been riding since college age when I bought a new '72 Norton Commando, and after a time out while the kids were growing up, got back into riding in a big way.

Currently riding:
  • '05 Honda RC51 (recently traded for my '00 HD Wideglide)
  • '07 BMW K1200GT (tour bike to be traded in for a RT - though I love it).
  • '09 Suzuki DR650 (thumper for dual sporting)
  • '10 BMW S1000RR (mostly track bike)
I'll mostly be looking for ideas, tips and hints in the RT section, and hopefully chime in topics I'm familiar with, plus pics of road trips I've been on.

I mostly travel by myself or with my brother (who is also looking at an RT - and owns a GT) or a small group of friends. Hoping to get beyond the 10-14 day limit most working stiffs can afford to be away from work and/or family.

Thanks for having me here.

-Brian

PS: Mr. Bill in my avatar travels with me on trips, and ends up being the photogenic subject of many pictures.

Re: New Guy from PNW

Brian, welcome from sandpoint, idaho. Also welcome to retirement. I am also lucky to be creatively unemployed. Since I bought my LT, I've been planning my escape. This july, I'll be doing a month long ride, taking in 30 states plus canada & mexico on a ride objective to attend the MOA rally in Hamburg,NY. Not planning on a single motel at this point. Going to try to do it on the KOA cheap. It's possible I'll be solo for much of the trip. Should be interesting. Cudos on your big ride plans.
If you are looking for ride ideas, you could ride to my area & base out of my place while touring my part of the NW. Keep that in your back pocket for an idea.

Bob

PS: Since I can't very well travel with my banana avatar, I sometimes travel with a rubber duck.
