New owner 2006 K1200LT

Hi,

I just got this thing 2 days ago. 38.6K miles. 4th owner. Has some cosmetic blemishes, but so do I! It's had a few after market "mods" I'm not thrilled with and I've had to do a couple of things to it before riding, like replace the battery and a severely under gauged and dangerous jumper lead from the battery to the negative cable. Surprised that hasn't already caused issues with the previous owner. Luckily I had a fairly new battery that was a perfect fit.

Everything works. It has a Motorrad NavIII installed which I'll be looking to replace with something that can hold my phone which I use for GPS navigation as well as Pandora via Bluetooth.

My long time touring bike was a Honda ST1100. I went from that to an R1100RT for awhile, but I didn't really like it. Tried a Harley for a couple of years, but though it was smooth, it was just too uncomfortable on the highway. Here in South Florida the roads are straight and flat, so without curves or hills you don't get the chance to move around or shift gears much.

Went for the first ride this morning. About a 100 mile loop out in the Everglades. I was pretty much the only one on the road most of the way, so I got a chance to work it a bit. What a smooth ride! And of course the first few stops I grabbed the brakes a little too hard, but got that sorted out.

It's big and heavy but all that goes away once it gets rolling. The only issue I had on the road was I stopped a few times to stretch and I had trouble getting the side stand down. Like it was caught or locked up somehow. Not every time, but a couple of times. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet to see what's going on there. Luckily the center stand worked great.

This was great. I really needed something that didn't hurt my butt after 10 miles like that Harley and the wind protection is awesome.

Regards
Michael
