Hello everybody...just turned 600 miles on my 2015 R1200RT and its time for the first maintenance. I purchased BMW's Advantec Ultimate 5W40 oil ($21/qt) and rear hub oil ($26/qt) along with oil filter and crush washers. Will be changing the fluids my self and then take to the dealer for the diagnostics and any updates. Glad my next maintenance is at 6000 miles...I may have to see what other oils are available at less cost. Anyway, just wanted to say hello to everyone and looking forward to this forum...love this RT.
Nice bike, and welcome to the forum!
My '15 is just about due for its 6k service, and I had just picked up a gallon of Shell Rotella T6 5w-40, which cost something like $19.95 for the gallon at Walmart! You will find that this is an acceptable oil, meeting all specs. set out by BMW. My recommendation for filters and such is to go to BeemerBoneyard
for those supplies, and specifically you might want to pick up this kit for the oil change: New Master Oil Change Kit For All R1200GSW, R1200GSAW & R1200RTW Watercooled Bikes
. This kit includes the filter wrench, but if you have one already, you can select another kit or single filter/crush-washer, as you wish. BTW, you can get a 10% off by using the code BMWST or BMWMOA at check out!
Again welcome, and look around. You will find a lot of information in this forum, especially when you learn how to use the search function!
Edit: Many of us use Land Rover LRN 7591 differential oil for our FD. It has the same specs. as the RT's FD oil, and a lot cheaper!
