Riding in the Driftless area of WI

Hi All,

Just got back from my tour of the, mostly, WI Driftless area. If you're unfamiliar with it, I would highly suggest checking out a terrain map of the area East of La Crosse, WI. All day twisties! I picked up a couple maps at the Wildcat Mtn State Park visitors center. The maps are from the websites www.DriftlessWisconsin.com & driftlessdestinations.com. Wish I had them before I went, but between Google maps and my Garmin mapping tool, it all worked out rather well.
The 99LT toured, as usual, flawlessly and gracefully in every situation.

Have fun,
Jer

I couldn't agree with you more Jer.
I have put on thousands of miles on these roads ever since my days with the Concours Owners Group. They are the best roads close to Chicago to have some weekend twisty road fun! This year, I have even ridden up there with a friend for a (long) day ride of 400-600 miles a few times.

Re: Riding in the Driftless area of WI

Hi Keith,

That's a heck of a day ride! I'm thinking next season I'll just ride my route in the reverse direction. Save some time doing the road research and spend more time looking for places of interest. There needs to be some refinement done on the routing, since I ran into a couple of gravel roads. Slows things down and not much fun, either.
I was doing ~300 mile days, for 3-days of in-area riding. I spent the nights in Lansing, IA (2-nights) and Spring Green, WI (last night).
If you have any suggestions on areas/routes, I'd be more than happy to receive them. With such great riding, I'm definately planning to do it again in 2014.

Have fun,
Jer

Re: Riding in the Driftless area of WI

Jer,

I would be happy to hook you up with some of my favorite routes in SW Wisconsin. Milwaukee Map Service has a nice SW Wisconsin map as well.
We mostly ride in the area bordered by the Mississippi River on the west, I-90 on the north, Madison on the east and the Wisconsin River on the south.

I also have a nice little route to and from that area with the most interesting roads from Rockford to the Spring Green area.
We could also meet up one day and I'll be happy to do a ride with you.

Keith
