Midwest route advice requested...

Hello,

I need 18 more states to finish out the 48 and it looks like some of these are in your area...

I need to start in Orlando and need:
Arkansas
Oklahoma
Kansas
Nebraska
Wyoming
Colorado
Utah
Oregon
Washington
Idaho
Montana
North Dakota
South Dakota
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Missouri
Illinois

I was looking at this as a route which is around 6500 miles and would mean an average of 650+ miles per day. The plan would be to get out of the South to somewhere like Cheyene in two days (approx 2K miles) leaving 8 days for the remaining 4500 miles for an average of 550 miles per day.

I am considering much sight seeing as I only have 10 days to complete this trip and I want to get the remaining 48 states done on this one trip.

AS a point of reference I have a have been coast to coast and FL to Canada and back for a completed cc50 and a few saddle sore and BBG IBA rides.

Planned departure date is July 5th 2013.

I would prefer to stay on the highways to make the best use of time.

Anyone with local knowledge or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Re: Midwest route advice requested...

Looks like a pretty good layout for 6500 in 10 days. My best suggestion is to check the state DOT's for construction information with locations, start and completion dates. This may alter your route somewhat.

You mention that you are considering much sight seeing was this a typo? 550 to 650 miles per day with stops for gas, grub and gastrointestinal deposits doesn't leave much time for sightseeing and picture taking even with 12-14 hours of daylight. The fact is that to reach some of the major sights such as Yellowstone or Glacier aren't exactly a few miles from an interstate exit. Given your travel dates you'll probably be in the thickest part of the tourist season. So you'll be dealing with much slower speeds than you have planned for.

If you want an example of what's out there, read my report in the Ride Tales Forum (Out West with Chris and Lee 2012). That was about 7500 miles in 28+ days covering 18 states starting in Harrisburg, PA.

However, if you meant to say that you were NOT considering much sightseeing, please disregard the previous suggestions and comments.

Take care,
Chris
