Michigan in Mid July??

I was just reading the thread Tony Quick started about visiting the great state of Michigan, and the wife had just this morning talked about coming that way in Mid July.
Question how is he weather in upper Michigan in July????
Any events that should be on the itinerary, Motorcycle rallies, Hot Rod Cruses, Boat stuff, a Steak Cook-off, you know a place to kick back for a weekend?

Re: Michigan in Mid July??

Northern lower MI or the UP?
I was in the Keweenaw Pennisula over Memorial Day weekend and the temps were well into the 80's. In July Michigan can give you very warm and humid days and nights, cool and delightful temps as well. Normally it's pretty dry but thunderstorms can threaten at any time. If you stay along the lake shore it's normally cooler unless the wind has an easterly component (west side of state) then it can get quite warm along the shore.

In the northern lower pennisula the Traverse City area is very nice as well as the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area. There's Mackinaw City and the island as well as St. Ignace just across the bridge. There's always something going on in these places during the summer.

In the UP I'm partial to the Keweenaw Pen. But that's a fair way to go. Otherwise there's the Pictured Rocks at Munising, Whitefish Bay and Tahquamonon Falls in the Paradise area, the locks at the Sault. There's even the Mystery Spot west of St. Ignace on US 2.

Lots of places to go and things to see.

Matt is right about the weather! Click here for the West Michigan tourist association. They may be of some help.
Always something happening
in the small towns along the lake.

Re: Michigan in Mid July??

I'm "up" here right now and its fantastic,
85 yesterday, 75 degrees today, rain tomorrow,
love the trees up here

One thing about Michigan if you don't like the weather, wait an hour,
In July it can be 90 one day and 60 and raining the next,
also the weather in the U.P. is completely different than the rest of the peninsula.

Oh yeah when they say rain it usually means all day long, steady rain,
but you can usually ride in it,
nothing like the "frog stranglers" we get in the south.
