Very Sad News

I received this e-mail from Paul and Voni Glaves:

"It is with sadness I report that Ardys Kellerman died today in an accident in Alabama.
She was life flighted to the hospital but never regained consciousnessÖ
Voni and I are devastated. Godspeed Ardys!"

Lone Star has a tribute page here:

Re: Ardys Kellerman

That is saddening to say the least. One would have hopped she would have passed from very old age, not an accident. She certainly was an inspiration to thousands.

Re: Ardys Kellerman

Sincerest sympathy to her family and very large circle of friends.

I never had the pleasure of meeting her. She first appeared on my radar when she won the BMW MOA Mileage Contest just a few years ago. An amazing accomplishment, especially given her age - said with respect! IIRC, if you do the math she had to average more than 600 miles per day every day of the six months of the contest, given the number of miles she rode that season. Amazing.

Yeah, only 600 a day...she had already started to cut back on her riding by then...

Inspired me in Lyle Il in 1997 at the beginning of an IBA Ironbutt. What a great lady and great loss.

She was a wonderful person. I had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and actually got to sit and talk with her while our bikes were being serviced. She gave me some great advise and shared stories of her amazing life.

She will definitely be missed...

Re: Ardys Kellerman

Just finished reading Lone Star BMW's article about Ms. Kellerman. This is the first time I had heard of her, but I'm truly amazed and impressed by her accomplishments, which are notable for any person, not just women.
I'm very excited to see a person of her age so determined and active. I can only hope and pray the good Lord allows me to be so able at that age.
It would be quite fascinating to read an account of all the related statistics.
Did she ever publish anything about her riding? It would be a delightful read.
The other aspect I admire about her is she passed while doing what she loved. That's simply priceless.

Re: Ardys Kellerman

I found out about a month ago that Ardys last wishes was to have her ashes spread out all over the USA by her fellow riders. Lone Star BMW here in Austin has about 20 or so 35mm film cases with her ashes in them. I took 2 of them on my 12 day 4800 miles trip last week. It was my pleasure to be able to help fulfill Addys' last wishes. We had a small service & left Ardys at Crater Lake. Then at Haviland Lake on the Million Dollar Highway. I think Ardys would have approved of both places we picked as two of her last resting places.
Here are a few pics from both spots.

Crater Lake

Lake Haviland

Ya done good, Stevie! I hope the rest of her ashes grace similar resting places. She was one special lady.
