One Turn Too Many

My daughters boyfriend was killed Sat. morning riding his CBR 900. He took a curve in Boise that he blew and hit a light pole and was pronounced dead at the scene.
My heart is so heavy and I came here to ask you'all to please take care.
The hurt and pain is not worth the extra thrill of a corner too fast.

My LT sits in the garage, the memories of an awesome young man fill my mind.
Joshua David Miller, a heart of gold.

Re: One Turn Too Many

Our prayers for you, your daughter, and all of Josh's friends and family. God's word promises a peace that is beyond our comprehension. At times when circumstances are out of our control and our understanding, cling to the one constant in our lives. The love of God the Father shown through his son, Jesus, made real through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Re: One Turn Too Many

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words.
We had the service yesterday, this life is but a vapor.

Focus on the eternal and not the temporary. Enjoy the Almighty and know Him.

Thanks guys.

It might seem weird but, I went to the PD and requested a copy of the police report, I just have to know what happened.
This I know for sure; no drugs or alcohol were involved. The little guy just blew a turn.

Re: One Turn Too Many

We're sincerely sorry for your loss.. It's one of the curses of youth...

I can't tell you how many times I "should" have been killed when I was a kid.

We did some stuff that I can't even talk about openly and were just plain lucky...

All it takes is overcooking one curve..... Everybody please remember that when you're riding unfamiliar territory....

When we went down on the interstate it was the fact that we didn't hit anything that saved us....

Ride carefully..

Our prayers go out to yours and Josh's family...

John

Re: One Turn Too Many

Sometimes it takes things like this to make people think about their own riding. In turn it may help save others lives.
My sincere condolences to yourself, your daughter and Josh's family.

Re: One Turn Too Many/Updated W/ Pics

So Saturday morning I got the LT out since the crash 1 week ago.
Drove to the crash site and rode the curve maybe a dozen times.
The posted limit is 30 MPH. I started there and increased each pass up to 60 MPH avoiding the "manhole cover".

I then took a run @ 35 MPH and aimed for the cover, wobbled the whole bike.

I think I know what happened.

The approach:

Tie a string from the manhole cover to the pole???

And finally, the pole itself. The shrubbery was hardly disturbed, the pole slightly scraped, no skid marks, I don't think he was speeding.
One huge dent in the lower portion of the pole.
A helmet probably would have saved him?
He always wore one, don't know why he didn't this ride?

Take care my brothers, never ride without a helmet.
Love hard!

Re: One Turn Too Many

I am so sorry for your loss.....

It seems that the manhole cover might have played a big part in the chain of events that ended up as an accident. The roads are designed for 4-wheelers and it seems that motorcycles are rarely taken into consideration. What would have been a non-event has turned into a tragedy.

I'm sure that we all get that pucker feeling from time to time when similar events occur to us and I like many simply write it off to "oh well."

Maybe as a way of getting through this you can use what you have determined as a way of getting the problem fixed. I'm working on several areas around Tampa where we have railroad tracks on curves in the road. When they are wet, it really does increase the problem!

The city will listen, but it will take lots of pushing to get action.
