Jeff Eagan

I am deeply saddened to report that we lost one of the founding members of this community Thursday. Jeff Eagan was near Cody, Wyoming traveling home with some friends, when his motorcycle left the road and crashed.

Known as "ElJeffe" around here, Jeff was our partner in building this community, one of the founding members of the Curve Cowboy Reunion and a good friend of mine. Jeff worked tirelessly and contributed greatly to the growth of this website and to CCR. We will all miss his presence and contribution. I will especially miss our frequent phone calls discussing anything and everything, from this community to the world in general. Jeff was willing to do anything to help another rider and was an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of our community and the BMW brand.

Jeff started on an LT about ten years ago and recently had switched to an R1200GSA. He was completely enamored with the new bike and was very excited to be on this most recent trip with good friends. He was on his way home when the accident occurred.
I am still stunned and deeply saddened at the loss and the hole in my heart will never completely heal.

Update 08/02/2010:

Ruth West, Jeff's wife, is working out the details for a service to be held in Dallas on August 21. We will share the place and time as soon as the arrangements have been made.

Ruth requests that no flowers be sent. She believes Jeff's wishes would be to donate in his memory to the Curve Cowboy Reunion. The Donate page has all of the information. At the top of the page is the charity chosen for 2010, our 11th year of helping very worthwhile organizations. When you donate, please note that it is in memory of Jeff Eagan.

Update 08/11/2010

Ruth West is having a celebration of Jeff's life at the Twin Creeks Country Club in Allen, TX. It will be Saturday, August 21 from 4:00-6:00pm and all are welcome.

Per Ruth's request, this is not a memorial, but a celebration. Please do not send flowers, instead make a donation to Curve Cowboy Reunion in Jeff's memory.

Re: eljeffe

Jeff was the first person in the BMW dealership where I bought the LT in 2001 to talk me into the bike. He told me about the web site and the upcoming CCR in Hot springs AR. We rode many a rides together along with the rest of the Tejas gang in the DFW area. We will miss you Jeff and my condolences to Ruth and the rest of his family. Godspeed Jeff, we love you.

Thank you Dan for providing sentiments that match my feelings of this loss exactly. I never spoke with Jeff personally, but had seen him at CCR.

God speed my friend.

Re: Jeff Eagan

I am deeply saddened at the loss of our dear friend Jeff. Ruth please know that my heart goes out to you.

At the same time, I can't help but smile as I imagine El Jeffe on his radio at this point making sure he knows where everybody is up there, how he is going to meet up with them and wondering who will be the next to arrive.

RIP my friend.

Re: Jeff Eagan

The image I'll always remember is Jeff running around CCR with that radio in his hand. He tried so hard to say hello to everyone that attended, and make sure they were having a good time. Gail and I always looked forward to seeing him.

I looked through his Facebook last night and saw where one of Jeff's friends had described him as having "a great sense of humor, politically incorrect, very excitable and opinionated". Yeah, he knew Jeff. If you walked away from a conversation with eljeffe without knowing where he stood or where you stood with him, well....you just weren't paying attention.

Our hearts go out to Ruth and family, as well as his riding partners. We'll never forget you Jeff.

Re: eljeffe

Met Jeff at Plano BMW right after I bought my 2000LT. Attended the CCR III (Santa Fe) with him and others. Jeff helped me with LT advice and other things in my early ownership of the LT. He was a hard working founder of CCR, even though he and CCR went separate directions. I talked to him periodically via phone to follow up on old acquaintances and get tips on BMW related things.
WOW! Can't believe he's gone. At least his went out riding with friends and that's a better alternative than most.

I pray for Ruth and his family.

Re: Jeff Eagan

After hearing the news yesterday morning, I went numb. I was thinking that I would just go home, then thought that Jeff would say just go for a ride and get your head straight. I took off though the Sierra's and thought of the times at Red River where Jeff would take us on rides on some of his home turf and even share a visit with his parents.
Jeff also gave the forum an edge in a sight (pardon the pun) full of Rounders. Open, honest and not afraid of letting his opinion be heard. I always looked forward to seeing Jeff at all the events we shared attendance at. Jeff will be missed by many, I will miss and remember all the good times.
RIP my friend.

Ruth, Our sincere condolences on your loss.

All who knew 'both' twins will miss him twice as much....it was part of his charm.
It was not his style to go quietly into the night, and he has not broken with his persona.

Ruth, our thoughts, prayers and remembrances are yours for what ever support we can offer. You know that he will be missed.

Ride on, El Jeffe, ride on, til the day we'll meet again.

How awful...and shocking. Jeff was the first person to greet me at CCR II in Hot Springs. I've looked forward to that greeting every year since. Godspeed, Jeff....and prayers for Ruth and family.

Re: Jeff Eagan

I first meet Jeff at CCR 2007 in Missouri, Sammie & I rode in to the hotel on Tuesday about 5 pm dog tired & hot. Jeff & Grif came to us with a bellmen cart. Grif took our luggage & Jeff took the bike and parked it for us. The next day Jeff was the first person we saw & I had voiced my concerns about handing out the Awards on Friday. Jeff told me not to worry that he would be right by my side & he was. If fact he has been right by my side at the awards for the last 3 years. On the way home from CCR 2007 we road with Jeff & Ruth for about 500 miles . We had told him we where stopping in Plano for the night so he gave me his number & told use to call when we got into the hotel & he would take us out to dinner in the car so we could rest from the long hot ride.
You are a true friend & a gentle soul & you will be greatly missed.
Prayers go out to Ruth & the family.
God Speed my Brother God speed

When we spoke to Ruth yesterday she said DO NOT SENT FLOWERS
Ruth would like you to make a donation to CCR instead.

You can make a DONATION HERE

Well put Randy, thanks for expressing those thoughts so well. Ruth you and our family are in our prayers. Wish we lived closer to you in order to give you help if you needed it. Jeff was a great freind to all who met him and i enjoyed riding with you and him when I had my LT.

Another member who remembers Jeff and all he did and all he was, very saddened by the untimely loss; and my heart goes out to Ruth, to their families, and to all of us in the BMW family as well.

Jeff and Ruth were the first of the 62 attendees that I met. We rode from Plano up to Broken Bow, OK together. Over the next 10 years, we shared so many great times, so many good memories. Jeff you will be deeply missed!

Re: Jeff Eagan

When we got married at CCR in Gatlinburg, Jeff and Ruth were one of the couples in attendance. Since then, we have ridden with Jeff on many occasions. He was a master trip planner and a fun, enthusiastic rider. I can't believe he is gone - much too soon! And, I can't imagine attending CCR without him there.

Ruth, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Please don't hesitate to call if we can help you in any way.

Re: Jeff Eagan

Jeff was one of the first people I met in this group way back in the egroup days. after we met in person shortly thereafter I knew that a) he was quite a character, and b) he would be one of my close friends for a long, long time. I always enjoyed riding and hanging out with him anytime we had the chance. I've tried to count the number of people I've met and gotten to know through Jeff, and it's a large number. He was a very big part of the connective tissue that helped bring this forum and CCR together, and give it the feel that it has today.

Jeff, I miss you immensely. Ride in Peace my friend.

Wow. How truly sad. My thoughts go out to his family and fellow riding friends. I didn't know him very well, but he seemed like a really good guy. Tragic.

Re: Jeff Eagan

I met Jeff when he and Ruth were riding Royal Stars. Then one day in 2001 I saw him at BMW North Dallas while looking at bikes. I wanted something that would carry my wife and me on longer distance trips. He pointed me to the LT. Soon he got me on the IKLTR list, then onwards toward BMWLT.com. He was the spirit of CCR, and I suppose always will be for me. While always trying to win the coveted Insensitive Moron award, he had a heart of gold. While opinionated and argumentative at times, he was impish and playful at other times. He was always making sure that everyone in the group was having fun and staying safe. I will miss him so much. Rest in peace brother man.

Jeff was one of the first members of the LT board that I met in person. It was in Kerrville, TX. He was one impressive dude. He always greeted me like an old friend at each of the 5 CCR I have attended. As has been said by others, he will be greatly missed by this community.

My prayers are going for Ruth.

I couldn't put it better than that, and than others in this thread have already done. I, too, was truly shocked by this tragic news.

Someone once told me that you can count on one hand the people in your life who qualify as true "characters." Jeff is one of that handful in my life...and I'm guessing for a lot of other people who knew him, too.

My sincerest wishes of solice and peace to Ruth.

This horrible news of Jeff's death is incredibly sad and a great loss indeed to all of us who have had contact with him. Jeff was a very pleasant, giving and accommodating person.
May the Lord comfort his dear family and friends............

Re: Jeff Eagan

What tough news. Jeff was a rock in the foundation of this association. He was consistant in that you always left his company thinking, "what a nice guy."

Jeff was consistant in his association with friends. The trip he was on was with three couples traveling for the sixth year throughout the west. He loved the trips and his friends.

Jeff was a regular at the Top of the Rockies Rally in Paonia for a number of years. He was always glad to see you and able to give one a boost. This year I had several good conversations with at this years rally and told him I wished we lived closer. Perhaps we are, now.

Ruth was always special; especially when you quickly learned that she was every bit his match! He will be deeply missed by Connie and I. We are better to have known him.

May you find strength in his memories, Ruth. Know that you are loved by this family.
