Harry Hurt, 81

Harry Hurt was the principal investigator of the Motorcycle Accident Cause Factors and Identification of Countermeasures study, better known as the Hurt Report, published in 1981. As a graduate student, Hurt was involved with a project to develop a crash helmet that forms the basis for helmets used today: a hard exterior shell lined with an energy-absorbing material and soft inner padding. His groundbreaking research continues to form the basis of many of the country's motorcycle safety programs and is credited with saving countless lives.

Some people see the gas tank as half empty. Some see it as half full. All I care is that I know where the next tankful is coming from...

Unhappy Re: Harry Hurt, 81

Probably the most comprehensive report about motorcycle safety that was put out way back when. Sorry to here of his passing.

Re: Harry Hurt, 81

The AMA and MSF are currently raising funds to match a Congressional grant to undertake a new study. And there was a similar European study done a few years ago. So work does continue in this all-important area.
