Awful news. David was just at our house for a club event.

He was good friends with my VP at work, so I'll have to break that news today.

Dave was the very first person I met through BMW ownership. That was the kind of guy he was. First to met and greet new riders. He will certainly be missed.
My most sincere and heart felt condolences to Barry and the rest of his family.

Saddened,
Jer

Re: David Adler

I just got the call from Berry (David's son) and was completely shocked and saddened by the news. From what Berry said, David was suffering from double pneumonia recently (but wouldn't admit it) and passed away in the hospital at 10pm Monday evening.

David was a good friend and confidant. He will be missed and my prayers are with the family and close friends.

RIP David...Now dance, dance, dance!

Unhappy Re: David Adler

This is sad news. Having met Dave at the first gathering of the K1200 riders in 2000 at the MOA Midland Mi rally. We have been together many times since at CCR and MOA/RA events. He was always ready with a smile and a laugh, even if the laugh was at his expense. I will miss his wit, and friend ship. Dance on Dave. You will be missed

Re: David Adler

I am deeply saddened. What a great friend. Not being much of a dancer but so enjoying the process of a dance card, at Chateau Elan I asked if I could put togehter a dance card just for fun and let him fulfill my dance floor obligations. He thought it was a great idea and polished every inch of the floor the whole evening long.

You will be sorely missed at CCR David and may your dance card be eternally filled.

Ruth and I are absolutely shocked and devastated by this news. Dave has been one of our favorite people we've met in this group. The work he has done for the BMW community will be sorely missed. The dances at CCR will never be the same. And I will miss my friend who always called with good humor and that wacky laugh of his.

You will be missed, David.

David's family and his son, Barry are in our prayers.

Just talked to Barry this morning. This is hard to take. David and I had a fantastic trip out to CCR in Rapid City. What a great guy to travel with! We've lost a good friend.

I'm offering my prayers for David, Barry, and family.

Robin and I feel a profound sense of loss. David was a good friend to both of us, often more positive and enthusiastic than anyone else in the room, even big and crowed rooms. His friendly demeanor and good humor were unmatched. Barry, sorry for the loss of your Dad and good friend!

Wow. I'm stunned. I'm grateful that I got to spend more time with David at this last CCR in Rapid City than any time before. His passing is a real loss to this BMWLT community. And my heart really goes out to his family, especially Barry. I lost my own father very suddenly, and I know how hard it is to come to grips with a world suddenly without a parent you thought would be there forever.

David's broad, genuine smile will remain in many memories (including mine) permanently.

Our condolences to Barry and the rest of the Adler family.

Shocked ain't the word. He just sent me a package (arrived today) containing some of those ID badge holders that he donated to our Sunday School Class.

I guess we could all have stories about the man (great man he was) but the first time I met him he was about four years ago at a BBQ joint just south of Murphy, NC and he and Larry were going to Ironhorse Motorcycle Camground for our SE Group Spring Training; went blowing by the restaurant saw two LT's, did a uie on the wrong side of the road, stopped in, looked for a couple of dudes who looked like riders, found them, sat down with them, asked them if they were heading to Irohnorse, had tons of laughs, had some great Q and then we all rode on into Ironhorse. They were both crazier than I am!

I know Glenda and myself will miss him greatly, we considered him a good friend. Love ya' bro!

Re: David Adler

I am shocked and saddened to hear this news.

David was a "force of nature", and an unforgettable personality. I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time at CCR 2006 and again the following year, where we had some interesting discussions.

Our prayers are with Barry and the Adler family.

Unhappy Re: David Adler

My wife Stacy and I met David at CCR '05 and have enjoyed his company since then. He always asked my wife to dance with him. He will be greatly missed.

Re: David Adler

David, you will be missed by many. My condolances go out to Barry & family. You were the first LT owner I ever met. ( 8 years or so ago). You reached out to me when we both bought our first LTs. I was so happy to make a new friend, with an LT AND you only lived a few miles from me. When I expressed some concern of dropping it, you assured me that I would....boasting that you dropped yours 13 times the first month ! We rode here & there together, sometimes far, often near by. It took you 4 years to get me to my first CCR......what had I been missing.

You always spoke your mind David, and I will not disrespect you by doing any less...you were a charming rascal...yes you always spoke your mind. You ticked but a few people off, but you made hunderds of friends. And you were loyal...no matter how long it had been since we rode, you were always comfortable in my kitchen..schmoozing my lovely wife. We enjoyed bike & life talk in my garage & yours. I am so glad for the last dinner you, Larry R, Keith K & I shared in St Charles at the IBRA check in last month. I still have that front LT wheel for you.............We will miss you David. Gods speed.

Re: David Adler

I have been in funk since I heard yesterdy. Rode to my first CCR in Hot Springs with David. He contacted me within hours of signing up on the board. Flirted with my girlfriend at CCRs past and never failed to make you feel like he was really happy to see you when you arrived.

My condolences to Barry and family. David was a great guy to count as a friend!

Re: David Adler

Today I feel a profound loss of a good friend, like many of you, we all have some great stories about Dave. Just yesterday as I was re-organizing my bike tank bag, I ran across the little flashlight and the badge holders that Dave has given us at CCR.

Like many of you, I rode with Dave, he had been a guest at our home, enjoyed his visits, we attended many BMW type functions and always could see that smiling face.

If we could all get together, we could share the stories about Dave, that would take a week to hear them all.

Just one, in Lima at the BMW MOA the band was great, but the dance floor was bare....no one would even hit the floor....Adler told me....watch this....David bolted on the floor ... just Dave and started to Dance like the floor was packed....well before the song had ended, there was at least five women dancing away with Dave.. and he closed the place down that night...

Dancin Dave...rest in peace my friend. You will be missed.

Here are some past thoughts about David ( mostly pulled from Eljeffe's 2007 thread)

Who the hell is David Adler?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A question that came up many times.

The answer is very complex.

First, David is one of the "originals", who has attended CCR since Broken Bow.

Second, he's an accomplished dancer. Those of you who's husbands wouldn't dance with you were probably swept off your feet by the amazing dance moves of David.

Third, he's the guy who has donated the name badge holders for the past two years. Taking us from the generic plastic namebadges of past into a new era of a usable badgeholder to keep you cell phone, room key, and other goodies.

Believe it or not, even simple badge holders will cost the organization $500 per event. David really helps us out when he picked up the cost for this out of his own pocket. So here's to David! Thank you so much for your continued support!

Good to see all the pictures of "Dancing DAve" having a great time.

It people like Dave that makes the CCR what it is..

I purchased a 00LT from him

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had been interested in an LT every since I was passed by 1 on the interstate. Had been riding a 78 kz1000 for 60k miles. Me and the so had all
but the youngest off to college so we always wanted to travel as we did on
the kz when we were younger. Rode some sport tourers and found then 2 small for us and the wings just not cool. Saw Dave's add on cycletrader. Called him up and his enthusiasm for the LT sold me. He drove the bike 200 miles to meet me half way. I purchased it from him and he set me up with service tapes and this web site. Had a few issues with the bike and he made
good on it. Happy riding ever since. The kind of guy that restores your faith in humanity

Just one of Dave's secrets of the dance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few years ago, I ran across Dave at the BMW MOA.... well the band started to play...a real good band too!.... well at MOA the men outnumber the women about 500 to 1...

After about four songs and no one dancing, we observed there where several women just sitting there and moving there bodies and feet to music, but there mates or SOs, didn't dance I quess.... Dave even ask, to no avail....then he turned to me and said... I be back in a minute...on the next song...I looked and Dave all along was dancing on the floor....before the song was over there where four women dancing with him..... Dave never sat down the rest of the night,

I can't tell the rest of the story...

Re: David Adler

What very sad news - Dave was one of those faces you see in your mind when you think of CCR... how tragic to lose him. Dean and I send our deepest condolences to Barry and the family. Our prayers are with you, may the peace that surpasses all understanding rest upon you.

Re: David Adler

At CCR Jackson, David and his gracious and beautiful wife saw Lynn and I walking by the cabins the first night. They invited us in and we had a wonderful visit and the rest of that reunion we laughed with them and had a much better time than otherwise. What made this special is, not by choice, I'm not an easy person to meet and tend to put people off. But David saw right through my walls and made me and Lynn feel befriended. I guess the good do die young.

Saddened Karl

Re: David Adler

Shocked is not strong enough to convey the emotions.

David, you will be sorely missed by those who know you. All of our thoughts are only of the best of times. That cannot be said of too many people.

Barry, take of our strength in this time of sorrow, and know that we feel it too.

Dance on, my smiling friend. Your card is eternally full of only the best of partners, and your final drive will never fail again!

Re: David Adler

I purchased my 00LT from Dave 4yrs ago. I've only had contact with him a few times on this site, but always looked forward to him coming down to Southern Indiana for me to show him some of our fine riding. The LT was my first BMW and touring bike and its been everything Dave said it was and more if thats possible. Best wishes to his extended family. Bernie

Re: David Adler

I had to do a triple-take when I saw David's name on this thread because I couldn't believe what I was reading. Such sad and shocking news. David never missed a CCR as far as I know, and his affable nature was contagious. My sincere condolences to his family. Godspeed, David.

Re: David Adler

Lauria and I send our condolences to the Adler Family - just hard to believe that Dave is no longer riding with us . . .

Here are a few picts taken at the CCR 2206 at Chateau Elan

From left to right: Tom Gary, Dan Finazzo (me), Doc Edkin, Barry Adler, Dave Adler

So we took the robes from the room @ Chateau Elan and decided to dine with the statue of Joseph at one of the memorable dinners at CCR 2006

So the next day we decided to dine out at the local pub at Chateau Elan . . . all the fried food you can eat!!
I believe like father like son.

We sure will miss Dave as he seemed to compliment all the occasions we attended!!
