Jim Howe of Crazy Horse

Some of you were aware that I had a cousin who is married to one of the family members doing the Crazy Horse Memorial. I had great difficulties locating him while in Rapid City for CCR. I finally tracked him down on Friday of CCR and found out he was suffering from microbial tuberculosis and holed up in a trailer in Custer. Upon returning home, I contacted several folks within our family and along with help from his estranged wife Monique, we were finally able to get him to a lung specialist at Jewish Hospital two weeks ago. His wife Monique and his sister Carol were able to join him there and be with him today when he passed away. He was a young man who grew up in New Jersey and followed his dreams to South Dakota. I was able to spend time with him and Monique on my way to Grand Tetons CCR and they treated me like royalty at Crazy Horse. Jim was a humble guy who loved the Black Hills and Native American Heritage. I loved him like a brother.

Re: Jim Howe of Crazy Horse

It's always a mystery to me, Jeff, that events and timing, such as your visit with Jim, and your follow up actions with family members, are so providential. Blessings that you were able to spend time with Jim prior to his passing, rather than learn of it afterwards.

Condolences to you and your family, Jeff.

It is amazing how divine providence lends a hand. I'm sorry for your loss, but rejoice in the connection made in time.

Re: Jim Howe of Crazy Horse

Jeff, so sorry to hear of your loss. It is a small miracle that you were able to locate him and spend time with him. The most treasured thing to give is of one's time spent with another.

My prayers are with you, your family and his loved ones.
