Re: George Carlin

Really sad news.

I got stranded (missed connection) in Tulsa one time on a business trip - and George Carlin just happened to be appearing at a local club, so I saw him live. I laughed so hard I was hoarse the next day.

It made being stranded in Tulsa worth it - I would have flown there just to seem him.

Re: George Carlin

Remembered seeing George Carlin at Summerfest in Milwaukee in the early 70's when he introduced the 7 words you could not say on TV. Well he said them on stage and they turned the mike off on him, he did not leave the stage and kept up his performance for the first 20 rows and finally the cops came on stage and took him off to jail - he was both funny, relevant and current!!

I always took the time to listen to George as he made you think!!

Re: George Carlin

Carlin had to be the most intelligent comedian we've seen thus far. George had a way to talk about burning societal issues without preaching to you. In fact, he's the only man I have ever known that can talk the cold hard truth about life and make it sound like he's telling you a bedtime story. He was a master at delivering the English language. A man who's talents range from the 7 words you can't say, to Mr Conductor on "Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends".

Re: George Carlin

Carlin had a very funny routine about the American "Stuff" we have and how we create places for. Our storage places, homes, off-site places etc. I was absolutely in stitches over that routine.

That said I thought his use of the english language was very often in the gutter, which brought enormous laughs from his audience. Yet to me it was offensive and uncomfortable, which I had the choice of hitting the off button. This clearly is a personal comment and not meant to be universal.

He regularly railed against God in a way that was personal to him and funny to his audience. It was almost an obsession to him. I trust his view now is not too disturbing to him. As you might conclude I personally doubt that.

No doubt he was a funny man. His legacy will be interesting to be review in time.

My first thought when I heard he had died.

Most Agree. Glad I got to see his show in April 2008 at the Borgata, AC, NJ.
