Unhappy Lucky Puppy!

Today I had to put down one of my best friends. He has been with me and my family for 14 years. He was always the first to greet in in the morning . He was always the first to greet me at the door when I came home from work.

He was as faithful and loving a pet as there has ever been. Even as he got older, and his hips started to go, he would always meet me in the kitchen for my morning cup of coffee.

In the last few days, he could no longer stand because he didn't have the strength to stand. He still gave me the dopey grin that warmed my soul. As you can see in the picture, despite being 14, he never grew into those stupid ears.

I apologize if this is poorly written and not making much sense. I'm trying to type away my pain through my tears.

Lucky, I will always miss you!

Re: Lucky Puppy!

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

I"m sorry for your loss. I've gone through it a few times and its never easy. One of my family left me that day.

Re: Lucky Puppy!

For those that have to go though the pain of killing a loved pet:

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness than this loving heart of mine.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal,
no longer used to the bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet.

Though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice
and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I would not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, so that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, stand ready and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And , papa , should the GREAT MASTER see fit to deprive me of my sight,
hearing or health, do not turn me away from you. Do not make heroic efforts to keep me alive, as I am not having any fun and I can no longer protect you.
Hold me gently in your loving arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of Eternal Rest.

I shall leave this earth, and all that I have ever loved, knowing with the last breath I draw, that my fate was always safest in your loving hands papa.

Thank you for sharing this. The lines above really apply. The last few days, he couldn't walk or play. This does help me.

Thank you again.

Re: Lucky Puppy!

Rob, I am truly sorry for your loss. They are like your children, and like your children when it's your turn they will be there waiting to walk you home.

Re: Lucky Puppy!

Rob, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend Lucky.

Isn't it amazing how these creatures have a special place in our hearts? Here's hoping you find some solace knowing that he is not suffering any more.

Re: Lucky Puppy!

Very sorry for your loss.

We've had two German Shepherds that lived long happy lives and when the time comes I don't think there is a tougher decision--but in the end it is the right thing to do.

Of course all the dogs are in Heaven--or at least waiting by the Rainbow Bridge--or it wouldn't be Heaven.
