Brianbeemer Passed

Hello,
I am writing to say that Brian died quite suddenly on March 31st, and I am very, very sad and totally undone in many ways. We had our 20th wedding anniversary while he was in hospital. He was only 59 years old - we don't know yet why he died but we have a good idea what some of the cause was - there will be an inquest, and we will learn more out at that time.
So instead of being on the back of the bike on our planned trip out west this month, I am sitting here writing to all of you - I have read many of these memorials, and so I feel sure you will understand.
I want to let all of you know how much Brian enjoyed this forum. I remember last autumn when he posted something about the tar snakes that almost did us in when we were riding down from Maine through New Hampshire and then into the top of Haverhill, Massachusetts. He managed to keep us from going down and from plowing into an oncoming 4x4. But this was not the first time Brian did such a thing. He kept our Grumman Tiger going when one of the pistons went as we were flying from Lewes Delaware to Gaithersburg Maryland. He managed to get the skies cleared and we went straight in without approach/finals, and I sat there and did my best to be silent! And also, one summer in Greece, on a 34' sailboat off Ithaca, in a squall that blew us 2 miles in a few minutes in 0 visibility, he was up on deck tying down a sail that decided not to stay down, and I almost lost him overboard. OK, that was somehow the end of my fear of flying (strange!) and it was the end of his wish to set up a little sailing school somewhere on the Med. Anyway, I wish he could have done the same for his body - pulled the rabbit out of the hat, so to speak... Instead, there is a good possibility he was given a drug to which he was highly allergic, and his whole white blood cell production crashed out before the docs figured out what was happening.
We set up a geocache (MotorcycleR&B) called Bikers in the Park in the UK, and our family is setting a cache very near his gravestone at West Parish Cemetery in Andover. It will be a travel bug hotel called Bikers Rest... I hope all you bikers will visit, and think fondly of Brian, and take the bugs traveling - think of Brian who has been a biker since he could stand, practically, first regular pedal bikes, and as soon as he could get a license (age 16) motorcycles.
In tears,
Ruth

Re: Brianbeemer Passed

Ruth,
I am deeply saddened to hear about Brian. It must be very difficult for you and your family. I am glad you were able to share with us, and bring him here once more. As another Brian I read Most of your Brian's posts and enjoyed his experience. My sincerest condolences. If any of those bugs make it to this side of the pond I will gladly take one for a nice ride in his honor. Brian Ley

Re: Brianbeemer Passed

I am so sorry to hear of this. I never met him, but read his posts.

For a long time we did not lose any people from the list, but the last year has been pretty saddening, and the last couple weeks have seen two of our members pass.

I sure hope you can find strength in some way to cope with your extreme loss.

Ruth,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. You will be in our prayers.

I think this is the cemetery that you are referring to.

Please accept my family's condolences.

Brian is the kind of man I would have liked to meet. I enjoyed reading his online comments.

Re: Brianbeemer Passed

My condolences Ruth. I always enjoyed Brian's posts. I wish I would've met him in person.

I had an uncle die from an allergic reaction to a shot he got when he was 18 or so (before I was born). It seems this should be tested for first, since the danger is so great, but it still seems to happen today. I'm no doctor, just thinking. I hope you find out what happened.

Ruth - I'm also sorry for your loss. Brians story about the "tar snakes" has stuck with me since the day I read it and I'm sure it always will. He will be remembered

Thanks for sharing those memories with us and rest knowing that you'll always be in our thoughts.

Re: Brianbeemer Passed

Dear Everyone -
Many of you have wished you could have known Brian...
I have just spent 10 happy minutes listening to an interview Brian and I had with BBC Radio 4 Women's Hour in 2003 - it's about our meeting and a bit about our early years together... Have a listen by going to this website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womansho...5_fri_03.shtml
If you ever get to watch A Place in the Sun, Home or Away, you may see us on a 2006 programme where we have to choose between Bergerac France and Eastbourne UK - we are on our bike for this bit, and the best part was learning the history of Banoffee pie, and eating it in the very old inn and pub in Jevington where it was created - absolutely delicious, and light years better than any other Banoffee pie we ever tasted...
Thanks for listening,
Ruth
