PIAA 74120 1100X for k1200lt

I found a deal on a set of these for $250

I have no extra lights on my '09 LT

If you have the PIAA would you get them again and is it with the $250?

Thanks

I have 'em on ole Toad - work great for us in the Hill Country. They're mounted under the mirror assembly and rocker-switch controlled thru a Phoenix switching assembly. Would do 'em again.

The kit comes with a mounting kit

Is this where yours is?

This seems like a good place and out of the way.

Ole Toad has Motolights on the lower fork tubes, well below the fender profile - so we mounted the PIAA 1100X units under the mirror assemblies. Higher up gets a farther throw down the road.

Re: PIAA 74120 1100X for k1200lt

are those the LED ones or the 55w halogens?

I just removed some halogen 1100s, replaced them with some inexpensive CREE LEDs 1/2 the size and about 20x brighter.

I'd get the LED ones, would probably take a pass on the standard PIAAs

No, would not do them again. They burn out way to often and because you can only get the unit bulb from piaa it's $35+ every time for 1 bulb. The bulbs only seem to last 100 hours or less. Two many other great options.

Re: PIAA 74120 1100X for k1200lt

I like having them for the added conspicuity, and they are mounted under the cowls. Also I was super glad to have them as my low beam burned out and I was still 100 miles away from home past dark...
I too experienced the burn-out of bulbs as they seem to last about a year and a half.
They are slaved to the low beam, so always on, and I make sure to turn them off before shutting down the engine so they don't go through the double ignition cycle when I turn the engine on.
In retrospect I wish I would have bought the Motolites instead but I am keeping the PIAAs since they work well and I just replaced the bulbs (got a great deal on Amazon for a set of 2).

Re: PIAA 74120 1100X for k1200lt

Look for the black Hella focused lights. I bought a pair for fog lights; they also make them for driving.

Mt Piaas mounted low, over the tupperware, with the LT bracket are great for low beams.

Recently I found some nice rather small relays that I'll be using for the Hellas and another set of driving lights.i've made a wiring harness, and plan to use two relays for the high beams, I'm gtoing to see if I can run the right hand side one riding interstates and not have traffic going the other way botherd by the light? It's easy to over ride my high beams at 80mph when speed limit is 75.

If you paln on mounting them under the nose cone, you can probably make your own brackets.

What's the advantage/disadvantage to a caliper mounted light?
