2006 HID retrofit

I'm surprised I haven't seen the answer to this one by now... Does anyone know if the 2006 HID option can be retrofitted on to a 2005 bike? I've been to two cycle shows and the BMW reps had no idea. In fact they said I was the first to ask the question! I figured that by now someone had to reverse engineer this light upgrade by now and would have the answer.

I'm not 100% sure...but I am 99.999996263% sure that the '06 HID will fit the '05. Why wouldn't it?

But the bigger question here is: Why would you want to buy it anyway? Chances are pretty good that it's going to cost between $500 to $1000. You can buy two HID kits from CQLight.ca for about $200 delivered.

Yes it can be done. I've read on the German K1200LT forum of someone who has done this operation. It is a rather expensive solution though. You will need to replace the headlamp unit and you will have to add the HID lamp, ballast/ignitor and harness; all @ BMW pricing. Pennywise you'd better go for the conversion kit. If you go for the BMW oem solution, don't be surprised if it will set you back more than $ 850. (in euroland: lamp € 450 p/nr 63 12 7 701 744 and the ignitor € 280 p/nr 63 12 7 683 099)

Yes, but how much do they charge for this option anyway ?.
I would imagine that it will be a dealer installed unit if you want a 2006 with HID.

As option from factory, this is listed for € 421,45 in the Netherlands. In Germany it is listed for € 350,- (remarkable difference btw). This is not retrofitted by the dealer.
