Question DDM digital??

I just received my DDM HID low-beam kit and opened it up. The kit comes with a bulb, slim ballast and ignitor. Having done some HID research before making my purchase, I had decided that I wanted a system with a digital ballast. Since it didn't say on the website anywhere, I called the company and was told that all thier ballasts are digital.

The way I understand it, if you have a digital ballast you shouldn't need an ignitor. Is this correct? Any ideas out there?? I'm hoping I didn't get lied to, but I can't tell by just looking at the unit as to what I actually have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

You'd still need the ignitor - the HID requires a very large "turn on" voltage to get it arcing, then the ballast kicks in to regulate the voltage after ignition. The "digital" is just to differentiate it from the older, larger, hotter and inefficient "magnetic" ballasts.

Some older magnetic ballasts had an integrated ignitor, but not sure how many of the newer "digital" ballasts have this feature, but I'm sure most of them now eliminate the external ignitor and have the ability to produce the startup voltage.

Re: DDM digital??

Just find out what kind of draw the ballast uses upon start up if you're not using a relay harness. We have had some customers switch to our kit due to the fact that we use a low draw ballast (only 4.5A) upon start up.

Re: DDM digital??

I just installed my DDM high and low beam bulbs. Very simple and fast. Everything you need is there. Just reconnect the standard bulb power to the power leads on the ballasts and it works. Had to do a little reconfiguration on the bulb mount, but nothing earth shattering.

I think the pics below speak for themselves.
