Do they bounce?

If auxiliary lighting is attached via the brake caliper holes, will the light beam bounce around? That wouldn't be a problem for daytime riding, but I need the extra candlelight power at night. I have an '09 LT and was wondering if the telelever suspension would keep the light beam from bouncing around at night. I'd think that it would drive the rider crazy if the light beam was bouncing all over the place on less than glass smooth roads. Has anyone mounted their lights on the brake calibers, on an LT? Thanks

Re: Do they bounce?

Caliper lights (Motolights) don't bounce around that I have noticed but I don't use them so much for night driving as they don't put out that much light. I rely on the added HID lighting in the stock headlight for night time. The Motos are for conspicuity during the day. I think you would be better off mounting small HID aux lights right under the side mirrors.

Re: Do they bounce?

Some background: I have PIAA HID Cross Country Lights mounted under the mirrors, but the bracket that holds the auxiliary lights splays out the mirrors, where they connect with the LT fairing, resulting in more frequent "flopping mirror syndrome". I've shimmed, readjusted as much as possible but the BMR brackets, which are well made don't allow for a tight fit for the mirrors to connect to the fairing. The Cross Country lights are too big to mount under the fairing cowling so I'm exploring alternative mounting options. If I have to go with lights under the cowling, I'll go with PIAA 1100s. Heck, I'd go with the 1100s and Cross Country lights since I do a lot of night time riding. The LT is our transport for everything so I'd like to improve the night time riding with better lighting and without having to re-set the mirrors after every major pothole. Thanks for the comments on the MotoLights, they don't look like a good fit for improving night time illumination.

Re: Do they bounce?

Understand. Now if Motolights just made them with HID... That is probably why I don't drive at night that much - not enough Lumens for these old eyes!

Re: Do they bounce?

I got you to look at the posting and that was my intent. I really need to find a good lighting set up for my LT. I need all the illumination I can get and I don't mind paying top dollar for it either. Just want something that will hold up to Manhattan potholes as well as the rest of rough roads I encounter along the east coast. I even had one of the mirrors pop out on the Merritt Parkway yesterday on the way to central/no. CT.

Re: Do they bounce?

MotoLights were the first add on, at my first CCR. The stock 03 lighting is just plain bad. Big improvement with the MotoLights. They are high quality and very solid. Later I added the HID kit for the low beams, which was even better improvement than the MotoLights, but I can still tell the difference if I turn the MotoLights off, so they are still contributing. No, they don't bounce around any more than your bike does.
