Cool HID Post # 3,187,316

Sorry guys! I have read a ton of the HID posts but have not found answers to all my questions.

2001 LT to upgrade both low and high beam lamps to HID.

I am not a light flasher so it won't be a loss to me have to wait the sec necessary for the high beam to fire.

I am planning to go with 5,000 deg Kelvin as I prefer the whiter light and don't care if the 5000's put out a few lumens less light than the 4300's.

I would (at least I think I would) like to use a 55W low beam lamp instead of a 35W low beam lamp and either another 55W or an 85 W for the high beam lamp. Any heat issues with a 55W and an 85W in the headlamp assembly?

I have no problems adjusting the lamp assy's to make sure they are aimed correctly in order to keep from blinding the cage drivers.

Thanks for any and all advice!

I think that 55 watt is overkill for low beam. The standard 35 watt HID is PLENTY bright. The HID units in high end cars (BMW, Mercedes, Etc.) are 35 watt.

In normal riding areas, residential, town, etc. you may find that anything brighter is just TOO much, and you will be blinding other drivers in many instances. Such as topping hills, when turning, etc..

The heat will not be a problem though, as HID runs much cooler than halogen bulbs.

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work...I want to achieve it through not dying.

I have the 35W / 5000 K & it is plenty bright. Any brighter would be a waste .

Re: HID Post # 3,187,316

I actually pulled the trigger on a DDM Tuning unit. Lifetime warranty, located on the left coast, great price, no freakin' sales tax, and $10 shipping.

There seemed to be far too many CQ lighting failures and he other dealers, outside of ebay, were generally 2 to 3 X the price.

I know! Mea Culpa! But ikm usually pretty lucky with these things.
