Thumbs up Brake LED lites

Just finished installing a set of BRAKE! LED lights on my LT to augment my Hyperlites and the auxiliary police brake light(LED) which I had installed when I bought the bike new.

What a difference!! Replacing the OEM brake lights with the LEDS makes a big difference especially with the 1.5 second flashing then steady setup.

Riding around today I noticed cagers slow down sooner when I'm stopped at a stoplight. The bright LEDs really get their attention when they come up behind me..

Re: Brake LED lites

Ok..

Oh, forgot to mention that the lower LEDs have a 1/2 second strobe, the hyperlites flash 7 times before steady on and the BRAKE! LEDs strobe for 1.5 seconds before steady on..

The strobing effect from the BRAKE! lights is the attention getter..

Thumbs down Re: Brake LED lites

could not upload video..something about invalid file extension..not too versed on how to uplink for viewing..sorry

I purchased the lites from Las Vegas BMW where they were on sale..They had other M/C types but didn't pay much attention to that..LV BMW website is: bmwoflasvegas.com.. might try them and see if they have any more left.

hyperlites.com is the other website for their lites..

Check with your BMW dealer. I know that BMW of Ventura has them, but you may find them locally. Try A&S BMW as they do a lot of business via shipping.

Re: Brake LED lites

I have a set of the Brake! lights too and they make all the difference in the world...... It doesn't hurt that I got them at a kick a$$ deal from the Wilmington dealership too! Took about 10 minutes to install. I would recommend them to anyone.

Re: Brake LED lites

Had the BRAKE! LED lights installed on my LT a couple of years, ago.
I'm always checking my six, especially when stopped.
I'll tap my brakes as the vehicle approaches.
Get's their attention 'cause I can see their front ends dip suddenly as they brake.

Looks like the company has been sold to Road Rocketeer. Their webpage for products and sales isn't working yet, but you can contact them by going here.

The website doesn't list a price for the Brake! lights for the K12. I'm guessing $135x3. Is that close?

they may still have a few...

Re: Brake LED lites

If you are looking for an inexpensive alternative try this.
It's a headlamp wigwag flasher.
http://www.midwayautosupply.com/p-30...s-el13a-2.aspx

To install pull the taillamp assembly.
Disconnect the brake lamp terminal blades from the two outside bulbs.
Reconnect the left blade to the center brake lamp which is originally unused.
The right blade then is attached to the flasher unit supply side (X terminal).
Make two jumpers and reconnect the two outside brake lamps to the two remaining terminals on the flasher unit.
Secure the flasher unit with double sided tape near the base of the taillamp assembly.
The center brake lamp now stays lit and the bulbs on each side of it will wigwag.
I'm not sure it's legal, but man is it effective and it's about $20.00.
I also added an extra LED brake lamp just below the tag for a total cost of $30.00.
I normally get about a 10 foot buffer behind me.

Don't happen to have a part number for those for an 05 or newer, do you? This is all they have on their website...

Yeah, that is what I am worried about since they are non-returnable. I don't like being BS'd and screwed all at the same time.

Re: Brake LED lites

OOOOOOooooooooooo AHhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I just loves them flashing lights, but I'll be damned if I can remember how I did this.

I seem to remember it involved taking the top case rack apart and routering channels (with my Dremel tool) inside the frame for the Hyperlight wires, then mounting that black box in the bottom of the cosmetic case.

....the rest involved a lot of 3M plastic "splicing" clips and taking the impulse for the outside OEM brake lights from the license plate frame LEDs.

Pretty sure I mounted that black box on the inside of the OEM lens in a small cavity on the side with double sided tape.

It definitely gets your attention.

Re: Brake LED lites

The new manufacturer's site, Road Rocketeer, says the BK0106 is good for all model years of the LT.

As has already been reported in other threads, Gizzmo Mill is no longer in business. Road Rocketeer has taken over the manufacturing and distribution of the Brake! LED product line.

I didn't have the CANBUS tail light error problem on my '05 GS until after BMW updated the firmware. I thought I had screwed the pooch when I procrastinated on sending it back to Gizmo Mill to have it updated to work with all GS model years. I think they were charging $40 for the fix. When I tried to contact Gizmo Mill they were already kaput. Fortunately Road Rocketeer is also offering a fix and it costs $25. I sent my GS unit in last week.

Re: Brake LED lites

Well, I was only going by the prices I saw there. $135 was listed for a bike using 1 bulb. Since they didn't show a price for the LT, I was left to guess. Turns out it was a bad guess. I repent. Just ordered them from SantaCruzBMW.

Thanks,

The Santa Cruz sticker on the box says "LED BRAKE K1200LT 6300 1068"

I originally got one without the resistor and that caused the brake fault light to activate. I then exchanged it for one WITH THE RESISTOR and no problems!!! I'd suggest calling and requesting to have them physically check for the resistor before having them send it out...

Re: Brake LED lites

Now, I am rethinking it might have worked OK if I were to leave the middle light alone. ABS is only monitoring the middle light low filament (5W). So, if you only replace one on left and one the right with 2 units only (instead of three because you are skipping the middle) it might have worked. But, this is just a theory to be proven :-)

I may be mistaken but I think it's the middle light that actually controls the flashing for all three...

I know the BMW dealer in Wilmington had about three sets on the counter 2 months ago and like I said he definately didn't want them on his counter anymore for the price he gave me. Give him a call and see what he says.

Re: Brake LED lites

I've been in touch with RoadRocketeer several times recently and have a BRAKE! bulb on the way for my R1200RT. I suggest you go to their web site and call them (west coast time) and talk to them directly. I believe you'll get a straight story about not only the product but who Road Rocketeer is, and why Gizmo Mill is no longer associated with the product, if you care.

I called them and they said they had some, but wouldn't sell them due to Gizmomill going out of business. If it didn't work, neither I nor they would have any recourse. Still on the hunt...maybe back to Santa Cruz.

Call Road Rocketeer (don't email, don't order online from their website right now) and Kevin will almost certainly answer the phone. It's taken me almost a month to get the light shipped, due to the transition to the new company, weather, and general disorganization. I've got a FedEx shipping number now, should be here today or tomorrow. Kevin's a really nice guy. Like so many of these small companies, one person wears too many hats. I expect in a month or so things will smooth out.

Re: Brake LED lites

If I were you if I would try these instead (They are no LED but great reviews I see)

Just change out left and right rear brake bulbs. Leave the middle one alone.

Re: Brake LED lites

I ran the KISAN bulbs, in my LT some time ago. They do a nice job. Mine, when brakes were applied, did a wig-wag back and forth, until the 5sec was up and they stayed on constant... very good attraction getter ! going to put them back in my LT again, soon..

This video is my 2000 LT with the Kisan Bulbs and the Kisan Module for the led in the rack. Not quite a bright on the taillight area, but did a good job.

Re: Brake LED lites

Nice Video Steve. I wonder if this is 10W-D 2Pak

or

20W-D 2Pak

20W-D 2Pak is the newer 20 Watt version and supposed to brighter with Wider dispersion of light for broad, uniform spectrum.

Re: Brake LED lites

Depends on when the 20w kit came out. My orignal bike I purchased from Raffy in 2004 and the lights were there when I bought it. I would suspect they are the 2x10w units.

Re: Brake LED lites

Well I ordered the Kisan and hope they are as good as they seem to look. I already have the rack LED blinking so I think this will be a great addition. With the rack LED flashing, and these Kisan flashing, and with the rear brake light above the licenses plate I think I have done all I can to keep from getting run over from the rear.

Damn 117 bucks for two bulbs, but if it keeps them off my 6, it is well worth it.

I got my Brake! lights today from SantaCruz. The instructions say system includes circuit that fools ABS system into thinking all bulbs are working normally. Can't wait to get them installed.

Will do, as soon as the temp gets back above zero. Think my fingers would fall off during install at current temps.
