Motolights Install Question

I think I'm going to try to install my set of NTM Motolights this weekend. At STC, Gerard and Lynn we very kind and helped me install (okay, they did the work and I watched) a new Bluesea fuse box and relay. My thought is to run a set of wires from the fuse box directly to the Motolights in it's own circuit. My understanding (as limited as I am) is that this will setup will allow me to have the lights always on when the key is in the ON position.

My question, do I need to include a second relay with the lights or will the relay tied into the fusebox suffice?

I don't want to bother with a switch. From what I read here and elsewhere, most people leave them 99% of the time anyway for better visability.

The only draw back is if the battery is too weak to start the bike. Then, it would be helpful to turn them off. I figure, if I have this problem, I can always pull the fuse in the Bluesea to kill the lights.

Is a second relay needed after the fusebox and before the lights?

Re: Motolights Install Question

I'd use a relay for the motolights.

Re: Motolights Install Question

I just installed the Autwoswitch for the Motolights, and I love it!!!

It took quite a bit of phone calls, e-mails, hours of work, but it was worth it. I have photos under "Progress report & something else" just posted yesterday, maybe today. I am beat.

I wired it from the rear, to the electric panel behind the right radiator. See my pic, it is the brown wire with white stripe on the top. Easy once you know where to hook into.

The violet wire gave me a nightmare. The Motolight relay had a schematic, but I could not understand how that related to the unmarked terminals, all of which were black.

So, after a couple of hours calling around, Louis from Electrical Connection dot com, worked with me, I had my cell phone and was at the bike as he talked me through the connections.

I LOVE this switch. I have the LED mounted to the GPS mount, it is in perfect view, and just love the way it works. Sure beats the old Motolight switch I got with it.

And, it turns off each time the motor is turned off. I have had enough close calls with battery issues to now want that much power drain on start up.

I also carry a set of jumpers to use from my charging system, just in case.

The switch is $29.
