Engine Guard Bars + Highway Pegs

Ok, I didn't get any responses re my question about Wunderlich engine guard bars for the 1600 so I will ask this. Has anyone purchased the Ilium Works engine guard bar and foot peg assemblies yet? I have looked at all the major players and most of these things are plain ol' ugly. The one really nice looking set of engine guard bars that I saw are made by a Japanese company and cost about $750.00 USC. A little too much for my taste. Wunderlich came out with their engine guard bars and it would probably look good on a Ducati (Exo-skeleton look), but not on a 1600 IMHO. The BMW bars look sort of OK but I don't know how much real protection they will offer which leads me to the Ilium Works guard bars. While they look substantial they seem to detract form the lines of the bike and when you clamp on the foot pegs it looks a little worse. So with all this in mind, does anyone have a set of the Ilium Works bars yet and if so do you like them??? Has anyone seen anything else that looks good and appears functional? Thanks.......Rick H.

Re: Engine Guard Bars + Highway Pegs

Ric I have been looking at these my self. IMO the best combo may be the OEM guards with the Ilium foot rests on them. Note however, when I sat on my GTL and put feet in the closest position to the bike it felt goofy and my legs seemed to stick out a mile. Did you try the to simulate the peg position? I really did not like it.

I ordered the Ilium Hy- way pegs for the stock BMW guards. I called the shop and they said that they wouldn't be delivered until the 2nd week in March....I will re post after I get them on....

I am installing a horn for someone today who has the Illium bars and maybe the pegs and will take a side by side picture. My bike has the BMW bars and I will be replacing them as soon as I find some the I like.

Here is a picture of the Illium bar and pegs as well as the BMW bars. I had 2 K1600 GTLs side by side today in the garage.

Re: Engine Guard Bars + Highway Pegs

I installed the Illium pegs yesterday on the stock BMW bars and really like the look. IMO they just look to be a cleaner look. Horn on the way. Took plastic off yesterday to install radar dectecter. A lot easier than the old LT. Removed without Iinstructions. How about that. I also found the air filter. Wow. What a great bike.

Re: Engine Guard Bars + Highway Pegs

Thanks for all the replies gents. I am really on the fence post on this one. I have yet to see a resonably priced set of engine guard bars that I can say I like. They either look too techno or too flimsy. Maybe I will wait for a while and see if anyone else comes out with a set of bars that I like and hope I don't drop my bike while I am waiting.

Re: Engine Guard Bars + Highway Pegs

I have the ILIUM Pegs to install on my GTLE, How do you keep the peg clamp from scratching or marring the "powder coated" engine guards?
