Unhappy Chrome strips on GTL

Hello Everybody, I'm now a proud owner of a 1600GTL, for me a great bike. I love to ride it (even though I can't at the moment due to weather). But I had a little problem. Both the chrome strips on the front faring came lose (at the tips, not completely). They got replaced with new ones by the dealer, but imho the curve doesn't match the curving of the faring, so I wonder if they will come lose again.

Does any of you guys have (had) the same problem?

And a happy new year to everyone

Wim

Re: Chrome strips on GTL

I took mine off, along with the chrome strips on the rear side cases. Removing the residue glue on the front strips was a royal PITA.

I'll replace the front BMW roundels as soon as I receive the light kit that will act as running lights and turn signals. Probably in a month or so. I think it looks a lot cleaner like this. I'll post a picture after the light kit is installed. There are some pictures on the other K1600 site of this light kit. Presently it can only be a running light or a turn signal, not both. Company said that a new kit is in the works.

I don't think so. There are pictures and additional information on the K1600 forum. I have an email from the company saying that after the first of this year, the new one should be available that will act as a turn signal and running light.

They came loose on my GTL as well, but only on the front fairing (front tips only). Pushed them back firmly against the fairing a few times (warm surrounding) and they seem to hold now.

The strips on the side cases have given me no problems so far.

Had the same issues with the small chrome strips on the fairing of my 2nd LT as well. Had my dealer swap them for new a few times, until I got tired of it and and traded the LT in for the K1200GT.

Re: Chrome strips on GTL

Hey, What is the best way to remove these chrome strips? Are you heating them with a blow-dryer or some other method? I have a scratched one that I want to replace....Thanks, Kipper.

Re: Chrome strips on GTL

The ones on the saddle bags came off very easily with my wifes hair dryer. The ones on the front were a royal PITA to get off. Chrome strips came off, but the glue remained and it took about 30 minutes to remove. I tried everything you can imagine and the only thing that worked was gasoline.

Re: Chrome strips on GTL

I plan on taking my chrome strips off the minute my bike arrives. I think they look tacky.... and I don't mean in an 'adhesive way'.....

The chrome strips were very easy to get off of the panniers. A minute each! Cleaned up very easily. Front was difficult. I'm still waiting to reinstall the BMW roundel with lights underneath.

Sounds like either a bad battery, bad trickle charger or bad alternator (I think that's what keeps it charged!) on the bike. Get your battery checked under a load. Most auto parts places can do that check. AutoZone, etc...
