Re: Extended Warranty

I bought the extended warranty when I bought the bike because I didn't know if I would have the $$ when the original warranty was up....turns out that was a good move. Since I bought the bike I have been involuntarily "semi-retired". In other words, my hours and pay have been cut in half....but that is a whole other issue.
This bike is by far the best I have ever ridden and I don't see selling it until I can't ride anymore.

A wise choice and what I plan to do on my 09. I see no compelling reason to buy until close to the end of the manufactures warranty.

Re: Extended Warranty

I picked up my bike Friday from the Dealor, Bought the extended warranty from Extra Ride @ $1249.00 for 72 month coverage, it was explained to me that what BMW will not warranty Extra Ride will, double warranty thru the first 36 months with BMW free towing also Extra Ride also for 72 months. Seemed like the right thing to do on such a high end BMW....matthew

As for the BMW Free Towing remember it ONLY covers the first 50 miles after that it all on your dime. I added Good Sam RV as it was only $80.00 a years & will tow you to the nearest authorized BMW repair shop. I have had a few friends get towed up to 500 miles to the closest BMW dealer.

Re: Extended Warranty

In the FWIW category. I purchased a 48 month extended warranty on my 05 LT and it more than paid for itself over the 4 years. No final drive failure. Things like engine/transmission seals, rear brake rotor, fork seals, radio, some other stuff.

Here is a suggestion for you, if you buy later, don't wait until the last minute. Do it at least 6 months in advance of your BMW warranty expiring. I waited until the last minute (2 weeks) and the insurance company refused to cover the bike. My dealer had to contact them and show I had all services done and verify the bike was in excellent condition. It was explained to me that some people don't get the extended warranty unless they see a big repair bill coming and the insurance company has been stung enough to be wary of last minute policies.

One of the exclusions:

"Routine maintenance, leaks and noises"

Leaks could exclude a lot of things! Depends how they want to interpret it. Generally NOT in your favor.

Thumbs up Re: Extended Warranty

In 07 I purchased a policy from RPMone during my four corner trip. Because I was their first sold policy (Eugene, OR) they took care of me as if I had purchased my LT through them. a very good deal that has returned more then twice what it cost.

no milage limit
no exclusions
no deductable
extended 5 years.

I have been told they have made some changes to their present products.

but mine is good till Sept 2013 so have not looked into this as yet.

Re: Extended Warranty

I was allittle nervous and phoned my dealor that sold the warranty, by accident he gave me the sample booklet for a moped/scooter, the full warranty items will be mailed to me, I still have 60 days full refund but after talking with my dealor he assured me it was a good insurrace coverage with this company Xride would cover all my abs components and my esa shocks if they failed, so im feeling allittle better, ill read the fine print when i finally get the right booklet. matthew
