GTL Trunk Isuues

I never noticed it before yesterday but when I was washing mt GTL looking from the rear the trunk has a opening on the right side between the lid and bottom. It doesnt appear to have any adjustment on the latch to make it close any tighter. Definately a leak waiting to happen. Anyone else have this happen? The left side is fine.

Others have seen this. Probably been there since day one.

Factory defect. BMW's been replacing the trunks under warranty.

Re: GTL Trunk Isuues

They did not replace my whole trunk, but replaced the top inside liner and the whole bottom. The latch is now harder to close but it closes and does not havre a gap anymore.

BMW replaced the lower half on mine & now it closes tight & fits tighter on the rack with very little movement.

Re: GTL Trunk Isuues

I've noticed the same thing on my trunk, but I didn't ask my dealer as I didn't think they'd do anything for me (since I've had the bike since late May). Maybe I'll ask them to have a look at it after all.

Re: GTL Trunk Isuues

same on mine. the dealer replaced the whole top case with the demo's. he said he would deal w/ bmw on the rest. I have no problems w/ the new one so far, but must confess it is always on my mind when closing it. I guess I'm just waiting for it to happen again

Re: GTL Trunk Isuues

The problem that I saw was two parts. First the braces on the top inner cover were too week and too short. Second the latches did not always latch, this is especaly true if the trunk is loaded.

Re: GTL Trunk Isuues

That is exactly why I keep an constant eye on it. It wreaks of design flaw. My origonal case was fine for the first 3 weeks or so then BLAMMO big gap. I don't recall every forcing it or anything. Anyway I now take a couple extra moments to make sure nothing is hindering the ease of closing the case to be safe. I ordered the RKA top case liner in hopes of it keeping things clear of the edges. I truly have no complaints about the top case as a whole, but I do think this is something which warrants attention.

Re: GTL Trunk Isuues

Good to know. I saw a gap on mine but did not know the warranty would cover it.
